This was the first presser that the Alastair Clarkson I imagined as our coach emerged.

Was like watching the feistier 2004-15 Hawthorn version roll out very much in our colours.
I know we say this every year but I think 2024 will be a cracker. Reckon we're going to be unrecognisable compared to this year.

Just has the vibe that things are really going to get going after this year was essentially experimenting with what we had.

Hope so man. Surely it's gotta turn at some stage.

Yeah it's hard to get excited or have confidence in our ability to improve but Clarko doesn't do half-way. Gotta be in it for him to give you a chance.

The buy-in is going to be crucial and Clarkson can definitely extract that. No excuses for next year.

I think with interrupted preseasons to our young talent, it's hurt what sort of midfield structure we've wanted to go with.

It'll look more cohesive and dangerous next year. That's for sure.

He is coming strong with this equalisation stuff. Only took him two minutes in. Amazing. Clarko is coming out swinging.
The guys didn’t even ask about equalisation 😂

Good! I don't want a coach who beats around the bush calling out the AFL's bullshit double standards on which clubs it assists.

He went for the throat.

Nah it’s the timing of it that’s brilliant.
Like the noise has been there all year and has been amplifying for the past two months. This seems strategic going into the finals series

We were at a club function on Thursday where one of the speakers was from the media team. She was pretty straightforward with what she said when addressing the audience and she mentioned the discussions with Clarko and the briefings in preparation for his press conference. It's pretty clear that what was said at the presser represents the widely held views of the club.

Great way to finish the season.

He just made another comment about the AFL and assistance packages in the presser.

8 minutes in...

"I'd think if they're fair dinkum about equalisation they'd give serious consideration to a team that's been in the bottom couple for the last four years."

Clarko you absolute legend.

Clarkson has put on a master-class the last week in the media dealing with difficult conversations around priority picks, assistant packages, retirements of club legends, all Australian selections and McKay potentially leaving.

Every single word he has said has put the club in the best position to achieve the best possible outcome. How much influence a coach or any club person can have on the outcome of these situations is anyone's guess.

But... what he has done is controlled the narrative. Masterfully.

I hope the club is writing this shi#t down as this should be standard operating procedures for the next 50 years

Can you refresh my memory, how did it go in prior seasons. With noble/or CEO’s asking for assistance?
Was it a generic line like ‘we’ll certainly ask the question’?

we saw the face of the future yesterday, in two dimensions; I said a couple of weeks ago we've found a core group of young players who can flip the ball in the contest to get it outside (TT, Ford, Phillips, Sheezel and as of yesterday, Lazzaro), and; now when we get it outside, the run off half back really sizzles (scott, Goater, Bergmann).

Good times ahead

Clarko must be reading BigFooty. There have been many posters say the same thing. Really anyone with an ounce of common sense would come to the same conclusion.

Dew flying in, should have got him a middle aisle seat.

And the AFL/Hawthorn football club experimented with us as well, the ‘how to Ass F* NMFC without lube’ experiment ☹️ That still hasn’t played out and I look forward to some reciprocal action both on and off the field 😎
