Yeah would agree. I think Lobbe should be in there, and probably Boak as well.

Gunston and Burgoyen are both deserving from the Hawks. Or will at least consider themselves unlucky to miss.

Gunston could be unlucky with Buddy coming home strong though. Nick R has the CHF, Buddy has to go somewhere!

Birchall hasn't played a bad game and been consistent all season. In our best 5 or so most matches so far, has to be close if not in the side. I had Burgoyne in but he has slowed down.

Breust and Birchall are the only 2 i would have in atm from the Hawks. Gibson & Mitchell would have been in but injuries got them. Burgoyne, Gunston and Roughy close but wouldn't have them in atm.

Birchall is on the border, think there are a few HBF's this season though to be fair. Have Burgoyne in, he is a lock, so is Bruest. I don't have Gunston as a lock as I see Buddy getting the HFF spot (not that I agree with it!). Roughy is a mile back, there are a lot of key forwards ahead- Hawkins, Nick Reiwolt and Franklin. He is in the next bunch, although if he has a good 2nd half you could pick him on the bench as the forward/ruck.

Johnson Hooker N.Smith
Birchall Mackenzie Malceski
Pendlebury Kennedy Beams
Harvey Franklin Gray
Gunston Hawkins Breust

Sandilands Ablett Fyfe

Jones Selwood Ward Lobbe

Johnson - Sweeper (out for 3 more weeks but will still make it if slots back in as before)
Hooker & Mackenzie - Key Backs
Smith - Small lockdown
Malceski - Running back
Birchall - 193cm all-rounder

Pendlebury - The Glider
Kennedy - The Grinder
Beams - The Pep

Harvey - Quintessential goal-kicking midfielder
Franklin - The cream has risen to the top for mine, big, powerful, agile
Gray - New running star
Hawkins - Leading the coleman, man mountain
Gunston - Reliable
Breust - Deadly, strong, pesky

Sandilands - Just too big for anyone, taking marks lately
Ablett - Son of God
Fyfe - Looks even more evasive this year on the deck to go with the aerial wizardry

Jones - Consistent captain
Selwood - Still the hardest
Ward - Dynamic
Lobbe - Either The Chad or Lobbe from PAFC, but Sandilands needs a chop out
In what universe is Birchall ahead of Smith?

Actually I have Birchall ahead as well, just feel his best games are better this ear. Both are on the fringe of my side anyway.

I found it pretty easy actually:

B: Hibberd Mackenzie Malceski
HB: Bartel Hooker Smith
C: Pendlebury Fyfe Beams
HF: Breust Franklin Harvey
F: Gray Hawkins Parker
R: Sandilands Ablett Kennedy

Bench: Gunston Boak Rockliff Simpson

Nathan Jones is next in line.

Since when exactly does Bartel play HB? Lets not mention the fact he has played HF for most of the year....how about the fact he hasn't had an AA year, had had some really poor games in amongst his good games. They won't pick 3 small forwards on the field. Nick Reiwolt deserves a spot somewhere. Simpson won't make it, probably just outside. Burgoyne should be the first HBF picked! Where is he?

- I thought Bartel played pretty much the whole season in the backline until the Kangas game when he was moved into the midfield with Kelly
- Riewoldt has dropped off and I'd have the other three forwards (small or otherwise) ahead of him
- I think Malceski, Smith and Hibberd have been better pure backmen this year. Bourgoyne has been great but he's played his best footy in the midfield and there are many other midfielders in front of him.

-Bartel has played mostly forward, I do use the word mostly. But he hasn't played HB much at all. There is ZERO sense in picking Bartel off the HB Flank, probably played the grand total of half a game there! That isn't the point though, the point is, he hasn't played an AA season there. Surely and I mean surely there are better options who have actually played AA seasons.
-Riewoldt would be in the side if picked right now. Elliot wouldn't be in my side and I bet the AA selectors agree. I would pick Luke Parker ahead of him personally. Now there is someone who is having an AA season.
- Burgoyne has been playing off the HBF/mid. So you pick him on the flank, he actually has done his best work there and not in the middle. Hibberd (and I love the bloke) has been abysmal the last few weeks.

Fair points.

I agree about Parker and would probably swap him in for Elliott.

The others, I think, are more debatable

I'm not saying Elliot won't make it but it will be a bench spot if at all. They just don't pick 3 small forwards in starting sides, they never do. Burgoyne is an absolute monty, won't be surprised if he is quite high at this stage in the Brownlow. He has been carrying Hawthorn up to this point with all their injuries.

Actually I do, he has been inconsistent. His best games have been AA/elite, but he has had some very quiet games as well. That isn't a surprise at his stage of his career, but come on there are a few HBF/HF's that should be ahead of Bartel, and I love Jimmy as a person.

fair play, i'd argue Jimmys "middle of the road games" are as good as most of those half backs "good games" and his good games have eclipsed anything those other half backs have produced ie Kangas game and the saints game just gone. Ridiculous numbers.. Irrelevant/relevant stat he is leading the Super Coach rankings with 109pts. Plays most 4th Quarters as a half back, id estimate 20-30%of game time would be as a HB. Personally i believe he would not look out of place anywhere between HB-C-HF

But like i said fair play, still think jimmy gets judged on his elite standards where as the not so elite get a lil more kudos for there performances

At best he is on the bench. For the record I do have him in a bunch that is just outside the 22. So I am not saying he has been awful, don't take it that way. I just feel that HF/HBF is the toughest gig this year and others have done it game after game. Jimmy has had some quiet ones, and I want the AA sides to reward consistency more than anything. The 20/30% is the issue and that is why I wouldn't put a bloke that plays 1/4 of a match in that position. As I said I have 3-4 on my bench that change every single week, at the moment Dion Prestia is my last one.
