The definitive GordonGecko midseason AA squad.

B: Matthew Scarlett, Michael Jamison, Josh Gibson

HB: Bryce Gibbs, Luke Macpharlin, Joel Corey (Vc)

C: Dale Thomas, Jimmy Bartel, Chris Judd (C)

HF: Steve Johnson, Lance Franklin, Nathan Fyfe

F: Jeff Garlett, Travis Cloke, Josh Kennedy

Foll: Dean Cox, Scott Pendlebury, Marc Murphy

I/C: Joel Selwood, Gary Ablett, Aaron Sandilands, Jude Bolton.

You know it.

That would be the most ridiculous line. Just goal after goal.

Daniel Wells can't be denied any longer.

He is right up there amongst the contenders.

I'm actually going to agree with you, GG.

Sam Mitchell just continues to do it. No doubt he'd be leading the Hawks B&F after another sublime 28 possy game today. After being shafted on three/four genuine massive chances to be AA, he's looking the goods in 2011.

What's with all the Bartel love lately? He has been significantly down for mine in 2011. He's getting nowhere near as much of the pill.

Sam Mitchell is a starting midfielder for mine.

Wells has played some very good games lately, but he's got to have a fair few more to over take the midfielders who have been gunning it since round 1 likes Pendles, Murphy, Mitchell etc. etc.

I agree on Bartel. He has been good, but hardly a stand out.
Guys like Scott Thompson, Griffen and even Wells have been better consistently imo.

Not sure about Gibbs being included in some teams. He's probably squad material but from Carlton alone, I would rather have Scotland named at HBF than Gibbs. Bartel also probably a bit overrated IMO. Also people are generally giving tall forwards too much mention. I know they normally pick 3 tall forwards but this year the tall forwards really haven't stood out as much as others. Also for team balance you wouldn't want more than 2 full-time tall forwards and a resting ruck.

My team would be:
B: Shaw - Jamison - Fisher
HB: Kelly - McPharlin - Deledio
C: Thomas - Mitchell - Ablett
HF: S. Johnson - Cloke - O'Keefe
F: Garlett - Franklin - Petrie
OB: Cox - Murphy - Pendlebury
IC: Fyfe - Griffen - Judd - Selwood
E: Bartel - Scotland - Boyd

Unlucky, but to make the squad: Thompson - Sylvia - Wells - Sandilands - Scarlett - Enright - Gibbs - J. Riewoldt - Kennedy - Swan - Watson - J. Bolton - Walker - Embley - Priddis - Gibson

Wells is a certainty at his stage.

Not a certainty given the midfield/wing spots are normally taken by the top teams, but he's been sublime this season. So influential and gets more out of 20 touches than most get out of 30. Only had 22 or so today but not one was wasted.

Probably the best attempt yet. Also, I hope you mean Girffen from the Bulldogs, not Griffin from Fremantle. A lot of talent in the squad that could easily interchange by years end. I'd even be tempted to swap Griffen with Boyd, his impact on games has been slightly greater than Boyds for me.

haha yes I do, and I think I do agree with that amendment.

He is cutting teams apart every week.

Definitely ahead of Mitchell, Fyfe, Thomas, Griffen, boyd.

they have been good, but no way they have been Wells quality.

Not clearly, but probably equal of, has been very good this year.

He's nowhere near Mitchell or Thomas. They have been playing every bit as good a footy as Wells has in the last few weeks, but for the entire season.

He'd be lucky to make the interchange ATM. He's in blistering form currently, but AA is awarded for a prolonged time frame. Not 3 or so "awesome" games.

My AA mids based on season 2011 thus far (in order): Murphy, Pendlebury*, Watson, Selwood, Mitchell, Judd, Thomas, Thompson and Ablett.

That's 9 players as i can see Thomas being placed in the forward line and 3 mids on the bench being the absolute max, making 5 starting "midfielders". Doubt there will be so many named though. Haven't named Kelly as i think he'll be named on a HBF.

I see Watson and Selwood dropping out however due to injuries/poor form/suspension. Next in line for me are Mundy and Swan. But as they are both injured as well  (**** me, which AFL stars ARE playing this week?), give it to Bolton and Wells (to appease the Norf supporters)

*bee'd dick between him and Murphy, but thought i'd put the Collingwood player last to provoke some "interesting" responses ;)

Martin is in the team. Another 5.1 goals and 22 touches for him. Averaging about 24-25 touches and has kicked 21 goals for the season so far. Stick him on a HFF. Absolute freak. Lids was also sensational tonight, didn't rack up 30 touches but everything he touched turned to goal, torched Brisbane. Had him as our 2nd or 3rd best. Those 2 would be our best bets for AA so far.
