Her CV looked very weak on paper prior to her appointment so probably not a huge surprise.

That said most of the CEOs across the league appear weak.

There’s a horrible incestual feel about most sporting association/ clubs. Would be nice to look outside the sporting pool for a change

I know he wasn't having a dig at us. I can abide low-level misogynistic drivel flung at Caro as much as I can abide Cats fans giving shit to the Hawks.
Yeah, but Caro wasn'tmentioned

Don't know how you can appoint someone after interviews, references etc (not a trivial process) and then a few months later throw them out. Not a very Hawthorn thing. Disappointing.
Very strange. 5 month process to get it wrong. Hmmmmmm

The Hun have a bit more information - http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...b/news-story/6c5b960ccde6901bb05a1afacf5a6c18 - quoted below if you get hit by the paywall.

THE AFL’s first female CEO has been sacked just five months into the job.

Hawthorn’s Tracey Gaudry was informed she would be replaced after failing to meet club expectations in key areas.

It has also been reported negative feedback from the AFL played a part.

The Herald Sun understands senior football officials were made aware of the plans as early as Tuesday last week, putting Hawthorn in the mix to lure former AFL operations manager Simon Lethlean and former Western Bulldogs CEO Simon Garlick.

The dual Olympian’s inexperience has been called into question creating a disconnect with the Hawks’ football department, including senior coach Alastair Clarkson.

The Hawks have tried to support Gaudry in the role and were aware early in her tenure she faced some challenges in the position.

The club has dealt with significant change in key posts over the past year following the departure of respected CEO Stuart Fox, trusted football manager Chris Fagan and a host of senior players including captain Luke Hodge.

Hawthorn and the AFL is yet to respond.

Something is very fishy.

You don't fire a newby this early for struggling to work with others. When she came on board the club settled somewhat so these apparent struggles were not worthy of firing. A source seems to have called the Age and not wanting to give away anything has made some open-ended BS excuse up while keeping the real reason to themselves.

Screams of a PR driven, club imploding prevention media release.

Yup - was enlightened to my stuff up- happy to own my stupidity. My comments still stand as it was still utterly needless to bring that journo into the discussion just to slam her as well.

The Hun are saying it was a disconnect with the footy department and Clarko. I think that would seal the fate of a CEO at our club pretty quickly. Clarko is more than just a coach at HFC.

Agree - not great for continuity. But if it's not gonna work, best to get it over and down with as soon as possible. Wonder if Evans is still available?

No way in hell the AFL let him leave GC. They need him there desperately

Ruthless.

To be honest I'd rather the club make the call and move on than to try and paper over cracks and hope things improve.

Having recently dealt with a similar sort of scenario in my work life where the candidate interviewed brilliantly and then became a different person, I can only wish we had the power to remove them as the HFC have done with Gaudry.

CEOs carry out the wishes of the board. These are carried out by management reporting to the CEO. If the board loses faith in the CEO's ability to carry out their wishes, then the CEO goes. It's the world I work in. If, as reported, she was a divisive character, then she has to go.

From experience, better that it happens quickly rather than festering. Sometimes through any process these issues simply don't emerge. It isn't until people are on the ground that problems come.

When she was appointed I had one very strong reservation - her background as a road cyclist. Not exactly a clean sport I'm afraid at any level - politically, drug use etc (not for a moment suggesting she was involved by the way). Culturally this was concerning IMO.

Just thinking out aloud. I do wonder if her focus on an AFLW franchise this year was an issue for the board also. I have heard a lot less on Dingley this year and a lot more about the AFLW application.

I want to see us in the AFLW in the future - but the Dingley transition is the absolute focus for the club at this time. If Gaudry took her focus off of that and spent more time on the AFLW application, when it was made clear Dingley was to be her main focus - then I can see why the club acted. Particularly when the AFLW application was a failure.
