What I think he's suggesting, Is that being faced with the choice between the Hawks & the Roos, then it's clear that Gaff's decision (Much like Martin & Kelly before him) - (No, not the father from Hey Dad) - is a no-brainer.

If you are stupid enough to delist people like Hartung, then dont be salty when someone else gets him with a ultra cheap pick and the said player does really well and thrive at his new club because our game-plan and club culture is much more suited for him. This happens, hale and gibson became top players when they were considered B graders at best by pundits before they moved. Regardless, our track record lately in regards to turning ready recruits into significantly better players is for all to see. You want gaff, u pay million plus. Can kiss your salary structure goodbye and before ppl start saying pfft you know nothing blah blah, im afraid to say at hawthorn top players gets 650k and that was Hodge so there aren't that many type of player around so 1.2 mil doesn't sit well with the hawthorn structure. Next ppl might start spewing drivel like 'oh he wont pick a minnow club' blah blah crap... well to people with such response, you clearly haven't got the faintest club about human psychology (and attention to what has been reported). Bigger club is not always better, Gaff's without the king hit was 60 - 40 stay, after the incident he is 60 - 40 leave, him got a very sick father has pushed to 70 - 30 leave, now if reports were correct his partner has just quit her teaching job to move to victoria thats 75 - 25 leave. Now the whole point of gaff leaving is to get away from the media lime light so going to big vic club has about the same effect as staying in perth because WC is one of the biggest in the land. We are a very small club with very little media exposure, we are paying 6*1.2 million, and our regeneration is timed to coincide with the arrival of the top players. So in terms of is leading the race, that is a mute question, there is no bloody race, we are the only team that suits gaff.

Gaff is on the moves because he needs to be away from the lime light, especially after his action brought shame to his name as well as it wrecked west coast as a team. Going to any of the big vic team is very much what he doesn't want to do. So out of the smaller clubs, i wonder which team has the ability to pay 1 mil plus and being nearing success. Let's face it, there is no race, there is only us north melbourne. So from certain point of view, north melbourne isn't leading the race to get gaff's service because we are the only team that can realistically get him. All the other points about past success, current culture, facility, post career jobs, sponsor and yadda yadda means jack shit for someone like Gaff once you understand his motivation.

Your mob luckily got away with a 28 pt loss in a game that had a 85 shellacking all over it. As to gaff shouldn't be in that environment, errrrrr surprise surprise, not everyone likes big clubs, big crows and the limelight, some prefers the quieter setting and this person happens to be gaff. You do realise we hold a war chest of over 2 mil... and it's not Buddy money, that was used.

It's the money which is on record that Clarkson said we could have kept Sam Mitchell & Jordan Lewis & still be under the cap, both left & we paid some of Sam Mitchell contract last year. Then Hodge left & in comes Impey & draftees, now we got Vickery & Rioli coming off our books... so income the new draftees & trade or FA recruits... actually we are a rather hidden club when it comes to media & we don't bloat out what we're doing in the off-season like ya'll amateurs.
