I just checked how much health insurance costs there.
For me as an individual it's $310 per month, for a nuclear family, it's $1,100 per month.
But then there's a thing called a deductible. Which for these plans were $4500 and $9,800 respectively.
You don't get paid any insurance money until you've forked out the whole deductible.
So even though you pay premiums, the first $4,500 of care is still on you and the insurance only kicks in with 50% after you've spent the premiums plus the deductible.
It's batshit insane.
Their healthcare system is also the most expensive taxpayer wise in the developed world from memory.
So they've got the double whammy; extremely expensive for the taxpayer, extremely expensive for the individual.
But the insurance companies make great profits and shareholder returns!
