Any chance we could make the season opener not the same teams every year?

If you find a predictable outcome entertaining good for you. Many don't.

Looked like men v boys with only one likely outcome.

Yawn.......

7 minutes to go it was under a goal difference.

It's a sign of a closed mind that it only sees what it wants to see.

It is a sign of a closed mind to argue a point you have yourself assumed. It is not about whether this specific game was entertaining or not, or whether this specific game rated highly or not. It is that it is boring starting the season with the same game every single year.

Read the post I was responding to.

It was clearly about this specific game.

Now read your own first sentence again.

Not sure why the complaints about last night. Ripping game. Just glad to see footy back in front of Melbourne crowds, at the best stadium in the country.

If if didn't make you smile seeing it back you must be a miserable campaigner.

biggest stadium in the country. not sure its the best.

depends on how you judge stadiums i suppose

I find it boring having the same teams playing on Anzac day every year. Who do I need to talk to about getting it changed.

Footy back - awesome !!

Last night’s game - great footy, really entertaining

Carl vs Richmond as season opener for 14 straight years - “Suck. My. Plums.”

I don’t mind the Richmond and Carlton opener. Last night’s game was decent.

If they were to change it up, I’ve always believed the two losing preliminary finalists from the year before should be the season opener. This is how it would look if such a rule applied:

2021 = Port Adelaide vs Brisbane
2020 = Geelong vs Collingwood
2019 = Richmond vs Melbourne
2018 = Geelong vs GWS
2017 = Geelong vs GWS
2016 = Fremantle vs North Melbourne
2015 = Port Adelaide vs North Melbourne
2014 = Geelong vs Sydney
2013 = Adelaide vs Collingwood
2012 = Hawthorn vs West Coast
2011 = Geelong vs Western Bulldogs

Last night's game was probably one of the most competitive of these in a while. It was anyone's game until Dusty stepped up in the last.
Not that it should really ensure it remains the season opener, but I guarantee you last night would only support the decision for the AFL to keep it.

It had pretty much the max crowd they were allowed, the game was pretty good itself, fairly high scoring and a good contest, and I'm sure it would have rated well.

I agree with you, although that one is more nauseous with the football is war bullshit and the exploitation of soldiers for profits.

Plus Carlton and Richmond 'invented' playing a game as the season opener on a Thursday night ......or at least that seems to be the reason that Collingwood and Essendon play ANZAC day every year ?

Did y'all turn the tv off to stick it up the AFL?

Bet ya didn't.

I didn’t watch the footy but not to stick it up the AFL, just had zero interest in the match. I once watched lots of footy but since they changed the sport I now just tune into the Eagles games. I still keep an eye on the scores though.

The way some people are carrying on, it's like Carlton and Richmond have round 1 all to themselves and nobody else plays until round 2.
Even when it's a ripper game, you still get 'boring and predictable'.
The only thing boring and predictable are the responses.
Long live the CAR v RICH round 1 opener!

Geelong plays home games at the MCG

Just stop clutching at straws.

Is the MCG Geelongs home ground? No, its Richmonds.

Does Geelong give up its home advantage playing a 'home game' at the MCG against a MCG tenant? Yes it does.

Would it be more of a challenge for Richmond to play Geelong in Geelong instead of at the MCG? Yes it would.

If the game was in Geelong 80% of the home crowd would be Cats paid up members or Cats fans. At the MCG Tigers fans would likely outnumber Cats fans, at worse 50 - 50.

Justifying my point I also judge stadiums on other things.

Is there a bad seat in the house?

How available is food or drink and what the lines like?

How effectively does public transport clear the crowd?

The mcg might be the best for footy but it does poorly if we judge it by those factors

Geelong plays home games there. Simple.

I prefer overall quality provided by seats (OQPBS)
The worst seat in the house is better than the best seat outside of it

I don't have a problem with Geelong playing all of its home games at it's home ground.
I've asked you a couple of times in the past and you've always refused to answer: In your opinion should Richmond also get to play all of its home games at its home ground?
