Or Basil's delayed commentary, like he's in another time zone?Does the Gibberish language BT & Darcy use count ?
I listened to the Dogs vs Port Mandarin commentary yesterday, only coz I speak Chinese. There's not really any point if you don't know what they're saying.
Afl.com.au app and website is one sourcehow do you get it?
I amI'm not sure why the various footy shows seem to think that we'd be fascinated by the ability of people to commentate a game in a language other than English.
Probably because the people who work on footy shows seem to be uni-lingualI'm not sure why the various footy shows seem to think that we'd be fascinated by the ability of people to commentate a game in a language other than English.
I'd say the audience is probably people who speak that language
how hard is that
More the target audience. New arrivals? Old dudes who love footy and speak Spanish/Italian? Overseas markets?
I'd be fascinated if half of 7s commentators could commentate in English.I'm not sure why the various footy shows seem to think that we'd be fascinated by the ability of people to commentate a game in a language other than English.
Nicnat said it himself - when he was growing up, there weren't any players that looked like him in the AFL
Yeah, people who only speak that language
Jeeze
I don't exactly know what you're getting at...Nicnat said it himself - when he was growing up, there weren't any players that looked like him in the AFL
This goes for languages too - embracing multicuturalism is good for the game
We have a number of players of Italian and Greek heritage, but given that some of the largest migrant groups are from Asian countries, how many players do we have of Asian heritage?
The main target is people from a CALD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) backgroundI don't exactly know what you're getting at...
Ah that's a shame the Spanish one was pretty on point.I watched as much as I could of the Vietnamese (quote: 'Gold Coast Lions') match. Love the fact it was commentated in Vietnamese, as I've been pondering to do it myself as an amateur for a while.
However, the commentating was an absolute joke (taking into account lack of experience, knowledge of the game and players) with constant use of bilingualism. The female commentator kept using English words that a Vietnamese audience wouldn't understand, and render the sentence incomprehensible; 'Cai nay la cai lingo cua nguoi Uc'.
Commentary was essentially 'player 22 kicks it to... what's his number, I can't see...player 22 gets it back, he kicks it again'.
