I don't see the comparison between Smith and Berg. Smith is more similar to Phillips in that they can both run well and win enough of the footy, but are too vanilla with their ball use. Smith has been used a link option well a few times, but suffers badly when asked to defend.

if smith is on the list next year we are going nowhere.

I think you'll find that Smith, Oxley and Thomas will go to the GC for Tom Lynch at the end of the year.
That's three players for one, so GCS definitely win that trade too.

No way GC win that trade. Three borderline best 22 players are not worth Lynch. If we could get that deal done I would be staggered.

Smith averaged 19.6 disposals and 6.6 marks per game in 2016, so yeah, nothing outstanding from Scharenberg. And it's pretty evident watching that he hasn't done anything to get too excited about yet. He's had one good game V Port Melbourne in the VFL, that's it. Here's hoping etc.
Exactly, its more hope now than anything with Scharenberg. But it's been circumstantial.

With any luck he stays physically sound, and begins to build confidence in his own game. Big thing this year that I'm keen to see him improve on is when it comes to taking the play on with his field kicking.

Three genuine plodders/battlers for a genuine superstar key forward, lol.

It was a joke guys. Smith and Oxley will be de-listed at years end and Thomas will be very lucky to be on our list. All likely to be de-listed. I should have thrown in Blair and Mayne for good measure.

I'll be very interested to see how Thomas goes this year with another preseason under his belt. Had a couple of very handy games in 2017 playing predominantly HF. Could surprise.

Thomas seems strong over the footy and seems to have good hands in close. He's also decent runner. I'm hesitant to say that I've got high hopes for him, but it'd be great if has more upside.

He's got an uncanny ability to hit balls in congestion in dangerous spots and scoop them up cleanly. Unfortunately, at the moment, nothing ever seems to come of it, but there's real potential for him to learn how to capitalise on this skill.

As Kohli would say - intent.

Shaz needs to show intent with the ball in hand, and intent in a contest if he wants to sustain an AFL career. For a bloke with a reputation as an aerial interceptor, I've yet to see him hit a pack in the air to either spoil or mark or fight for a ground ball and I'm yet to see him attempt to take the game on with ball in hand.

Coming off 2 Knee Reco's I would not blame him not going into Contest 100%

The joke

Your head

Why is that? I think he's a very good value player.

Smith is actually a good player, don't understand the animus at all.

No animus at all O S "most" just disagree with the bolded above.

He has played 14 career games.

Averaged highest rebound 50's at the club last year and by the look of the last four games that's what his job is. Should finish comfortably top 5 in AFL next year for rebound 50's if he can play 20 games.

I'll take a piece of that action. Shall we say a pineapple?

Not good value? Chris Mayne is 'not good value' at 500k per year. Josh Smith at 200-250k is good value in my book.

We should aspire for better than "good value" mate.

The bloke is average and that is being generous. I know all teams need them but he got dropped last year for a good reason.

P.S Not sure why Chris Mayne has to be mentioned on here at least once a day.

Every team needs good dependable players who don't cost a bomb. I value his contribution higher than a lot on here it seems.

You can't pick up new players on the cheap each year and expect them to know the game plan straight away. He's solid and dependable and I'm sure on a sensible wage.

Problem is that his foot skills meant he was not actually dependable, you never knew what would happen next. I have some hope for him in the forward line and think keeping him for 2018 was the right decision.

Don't know where this comes from, the Bigfooty cave of myth. Probably one of those instances where people form an opinion then look for anecdotal and occasional evidence to support their view.
