Are Fremantle a top 4 candidate?

Better than Geelong? No (Fremantle took their reasonable chance in Perth but a remote chance in Melbourne).
Better than West Coast? No
Better than Hawthorn? No
Better than Collingwood? Probably not
Better than Carlton? Probably not

are you claiming west coast is better than collingwood?
doesn't neccessarily mean they have to be better... just on who gets more wins in the home and away season.

Well so far we've seen:

Collingwood<Hawthorn<Geelong<Freo<Sydney

So if we're going to draw conclusions based on what we've seen in the first two rounds, then it looks like Sydney is the team to beat at the moment but Freo are also right up there.

I think the top four could include any of those above mentioned teams as well as one or all of Carlton, West Coast and Adelaide. Anyone else would surprise me.

I think we're in the mix, but 5th or 6th is would be most likely. Way too early to tell, we do have a really good draw though so is definitely a possibility. Although bar Collingwood and Hawthorn I don't think any team is certainty for top 4 this year.

I never expected us to be top 4 at any time during the pre season, and the first half against Sydney on the weekend completely confirmed that it's going to be another average year for us. Nobody with a straight face could say that Freo can beat Hawthorn, Geelong or Collingwood at the G.

Need to beat teams like Sydney to be a top four team imo.

Top 4? Nope. Gotta beat teams like Sydney to get in the 4. Freo should win most of their home games, but grabbing points from other teams like Sydney who should finish around Freo are crucial.

WC lost to Sydney at home last year yet finished top 4.

Not good enough on what's been shown so far. That second quarter against Sydney was beyond pathetic. Have to play a lot better than on the weekend to even make top 8.

Top 4 candidate? No chance.

Wil be lucky to make the 8. Should win 8-10 games at home this year but will struggle to win games outside of Perth, based on their awful performance vs Sydney on Saturday.

Good list is a myth. Pavlich is past his peak and Sandilands is injury prone.

Their bottom 10 of their best 22 is very ordinary. Besides the 2 new teams Freo would be bottom 4 in this department. Poor fowardline.

cant win away from Subi either

Good list is a myth hey? Prey tell who has been convincing the afl commentators and so called experts from around the country to believe the myth?

What do you call the two wins in Adelaide last year, win in Brisbane and win in Sydney during 2011?

I wouldn't bother reading PEN1's opinions, half of them are about how much he hates Freo.

A fully fit Mundy and Barlow will make a world of difference but top 4 is still optimistic with Geelong, Collingwood, Hawthorn and Carlton all in the hunt. I think they'll be fighting it out for 5th with a few other clubs.

5-8 is most likely at this stage. If we can start winning away from home top 4 is a chance but we'll just have to wait and see. The derbies will also be a very interesting gauge of where we're at.

No....I don't think we will make top four unless things go severely wrong (injury wise) for at least 2 of Carlton, Geelong, Hawthorn, and Collingwood. Will will be in the mix fighting for 5-8 with Sydney, West Coast, Essendon, North Melbourne, and Adelaide. That said I suspect the 8 is going to be pretty tight, and at this stage no side is really looking like a stand out.....

Of course we are top four. West Coasts spot might as well already be ours. We have a far superior list and look WC are already sliding. They've had two unconvincing wins, too many crucial injuries to their best players. Im quite a fan of WC, but too many injuries and a lack of compsure will sadly see them drop down the ladder.

Obvious troll is obvious.

So an 8 goal win and an 18 goal win have been unconvincing?

Again, hard to gage two rounds in. Ross Lyon's years in Melbourne could aid us. A few wins at Etihad and the 'G, and you never know. Those games in Sydney could go either way for any team: It's the most home-team-centric ground in the league.

It's accepted that there's no primary flag favourite. You have five clubs who could seriously do it. Geelong beat the Hawks but Collingwood could, on their day, beat the two of them. And who's to dismiss West Coast as being able to beat the Pies? And Carlton the Eagles? Every game between these contenders could go either way. And that could barge open the top four.

Additionally, the top four doesn't have to comprise of the best four teams. Fremantle has a more flattering fixture. Those 'easier' matches could be the difference between top six and top four.

Realistically, Freo will finish between fifth and seventh.

If its down to a favourable draw then pencil Adelaide into the mix. They have 2 games against GWS, 2 against Gold Coast and are currently 2 from 2. Their draw should be good for percentage and apart from a couple of top sides away, most of their hard matches are at home.

If they dont make the eight, then heads should roll and if they perform well at home, as they generally do, then making the four might well be a realistic proposition. Even more so if the other contenders take games off each other. Could be this year's smokeys

Obvious troll is obvious.

I could claim the same thing about how most (not all) Eagles supporters always rate our list lower than it actually is.

Anyway - I think the major factor here is Mundy is still yet to come back. He is our best midfielder by a mile. Anyone who thinks freo still rely on Pavlich hasn't been watching Freo much lately. Freo's most important players are Sandilands, Mundy, Fyfe, Barlow and Ballantyne. Those five blokes each bring a massive amount to the freo side. Pavlich is hot and cold these days, but can lift the side when required - as shown against Geelong.

I don't think it was a coincidence that Freo started to dominate Sydney when Barlow came onto the ground. He is an exceptional midfielder, simply because he can has very good disposal and can run all day.

Anyway - the draw does leave us with a chance to storm home and grab a good spot. The highest I can imagine is 4th behind Carlton, Collingwood and Hawthorn. If we make fourth we would probably displace Geelong.

Realistically though, I see freo finishing 5th or 6th. We have to start winning on the road, otherwise there is no hope. That second qtr against Sydney was very poor and we can't afford to dish up that stuff. At least Ross Lyon said there are no excuses - finally a freo coach who won't put up with mediocrity!

So which is it? Will we have to do well to make the 8 or are we accepting mediocrity if we only make the 8. Your post is all over the place.
both mate, we will have to do well to make the 8, and if we do make the 8 people are going to accept it and think its a successful season, when its not.
