The Storm are a good match though in HOW they do it given that they are famous for taking players from other teams who are often under utilised or very much just role players and become crucial components to what they do. The Storm recycle players better than any sporting organisation I’ve ever seen and it is absolutely freakish. I’m sick to death of them as a Roosters fan who’s side simply can’t seem to beat them in the last 4 years, and as someone who’s ’second team’ is the Panthers and as such the Storm perpetually represent their biggest obstacle (my partner is a panthers tragic so if the chooks can’t win I’m on their bandwagon) but geez it’s hard not to respect what they do

That is absolute garbage! Geelong's dominance is because we have the best coach, the best recruitment team (Mackie & Wells), the best club management and the best culture. It hasn't always been like that; Geelong has been dominant since about 2007. Before then we couldn't attract players.

Don’t have to point it out to me mate. I’ve told anyone who’ll listen all season long that we are no chance of winning the comp and that our roster is vastly overrated.

Young is as much a liability as he is an asset.
So is Crichton who everyone seems determined to ignore misses a tackle or makes an error for everyone he breaks. Brandon smith plays great for 20 minutes… then has to have a breather. None of our props eat big metres and Radley gets penalised every second tackle he makes.

If we could just play games where it’s 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7 against the rest we’d be a chance but beyond that we are nowhere near good enough

Most of us actually like the Storm.

Try living in a Rugby League state, and in particular NSW.

Basically, take all the dislike that the Swans get for COLA, Academies etc from opposition fans and amplify it by 10.

Once you've done that, you've got the thoughts on the Storm by people outside Victoria for the most part.

If anything, you're indirectly proving that they're more like the Storm of the AFL.

Based on a quick google search the median house price in Geelong over the last 12 months is higher than the median house price in Melbourne. There’s a thing called the beach that tends to impact that. So for starters, moving there is in theory more expensive.

Now, offset that may be by other factors: less commuting, less traffic, I’m not sure what the other costs of living stack up like compared to Melbourne, but that initial one puts Geelong behind the eight ball to begin with so maybe that’s a small reason why people point it out.

Secondly, when basically every small piece of success a club has over a period so long that it becomes beyond the point of being a fluke, is picked apart by people looking for an excuse to write it off year after year? People tend to get a bit sick of it. We get told we make the finals because of our home ground each year: our winning percentage at the MCG over the last 10 years is identical to Richmond, who won 3 grand finals in that time and won a million straight games there.

it’s especially a pain hearing the whinges when we sign these guys and the first thing everyone does is tell us how shit they all are.

Honestly, with the exception of Cameron and Dangerfield, when was the last time the Cats traded in anyone, and people said the player was good?

I don’t frequent any online league fora as the general IQ level is lower; AFL covers the entire spectrum, league sadly as a broad rule has a lower general demographic I’m sorry to say as a lifelong devotee so it’s almost impossible to find a forum that’s worth having a decent discussion in. League Unlimited is ok but I haven’t read it for a long time.

I do know that in the social media world the storm can’t sneeze without it being allegedly on behalf of the NRL and its conspiracy to help them win. Which ignores that the nrl stripped them of premierships so pretty clearly nailed its colours to the mast when it comes to how much it wants to favour them
