It's purely an opinion thing.

I love the way people invoke the phrase "it's just my opinion, but..." right before saying something stupid.

NEWSFLASH: Just because it's an opinion, it doesn't mean you can't be proven wrong.

If I came out with "it's just my opinion, but I think the world is flat", I'd still expect to be cross-examined and shut down.

Prefacing a dumb comment with this convenient little disclaimer does not protect you. Stupid opinions are still stupid and deserve to be ridiculed. That's how ideas evolve.

With somthing like this though I don't think you can disprove anyones ideas or opinions. There is no absolute truth. You can't prove anything.

Sure it's opinion, but you're basically avoiding all the facts like Lehmann's stellar record. He has never been out of form & today is just another indicator of that. ie. Age is irrelevant to the question asked by this thread. Quite frankly if you seriously think Boof is outside the top dozen batsman, the vast majority of posters on this board would question how much you know about Cricket ... not just the SA supporters!

Lehmann as been in the top half dozen batsmen in Australia for the past 15 years and still is. If he had as many chances as some other players have had he'd be a 10,000 run Test player by now.

If you use your theory on form, most the Australian team would have been dropped, including Hayden in the Ashes. Lehmann has never had a real long bad patch where he has been out of form.

It's just my opinion. I have evidence to back it up but if somone disagrees with me that's fine I'm not going to attack them for holding a different opinion.

With somthing like this though I don't think you can disprove anyones ideas or opinions. There is no absolute truth. You can't prove anything.

A truth doesn't need to be absolute in order for it to win general acceptance.

Nor does an idea need to be absolutely proved wrong in order for it to dismissed as nonsense.

Common sense and the idea of what a reasonable person would conclude come into play. There's no need to deal purely in absolutes.

That's a fundamental idea that defines our jury-based legal system as well as the professional mores of our free press.

If you couldn't do it, would that make its roundness less of a fact?

No it is 100% wrong, look at Lehmann's year in the Pura Cup, that is all he can do to get himself back in the side. I know it ain't gonna happen, too old etc but he has been the best in the comp this year and if a 34 year old who has been averaging 30 in the ODI's and 23 in the Pura Cup gets back in the side why isn't LEhamnn getting a look in or at least Cosgrove who have been miles ahead of MArtyn in teh Pura Cup.
