I did see that there was poster on there who was being completely realistic about the state of their lost, but got piled on and shouted down by the 'Port have the bestest list in the AFL" crowd that are stuck in the late 1980s.
Players like him need to be protected from themselves.Ports dr declared him fit?
Yeah it is part of the game to play through injuries, like Big O last night.... but there's a point where you've gotta draw the line

It would be interesting to go back over this thread to see which posters are triggered by Port & those of us who knew they are not flag material... even after being smashed in their 1st final.
Got the feeling watching on Friday that Port are set for a fall. Their game plan was virtually non-existent, their stars were easily covered, their old guys should just retire, their recent high draft picks are OK at best, their bottom six shouldn't be playing and their missing link players were let go from their previous clubs for a reason. I accept that there were a couple of good players missing through injury, but that won't be enough to make them survive. They'll continue to have a few heroic wins, mostly at home, but I think they should get ready for a few years in the dark, as they have a mini-rebuild to make up for several years of assuming incorrectly that they were in the premiership window.

There depth is poor, they have issue forward and behind the ball, and I think Rozee game has dropped a gear or two in recent seasons
Houston and Bergam will both be gone by end of next year, and it wouldn’t surprise if Butters heads back to Victoria in the next 2-3 years

Correct. Rarely do depth players make a difference. Talent wins finals and Port lack enough top end talent at the moment. Farrell and Houston missing was huge.
They need an off season where they get Luko, Perryman and probably another top 12-14 player (for them) to have a decent shot at it
They had a pretty good run with injury this year, Aliir just turned 30
Hopefully we can get our act together and go past them over the next two years

I think they need to sack who ever decided on the Ratugolea trade and 5 year / $800k contract
Played last 8 games forward, the last 6 games went goalless, and averaged 2 marks a game
He’s also shown he’s clueless in defence
They now have a 4 year list clogger that can’t play forward or back, on $800k / year

If i were Poort i try and trade Butters for 2 x 1st rounders and prioritize getting Luko.
try and bring in a mid that runs both ways. as good as Butter, Rozee, Corne-Francis are they all run 1 way.

I would still thank them for sticking with Hinkley in the last 5 years but to be honest, I think he has overachieved in the last 5 years with their list but was assisted with a massive H&A and Final series advantaged in the consecutive pandemic seasons and somehow still get weak draws despite finish in the top 4.
...and? If he takes to the field it is assumed he is fully fit. Went missing when it counted, again. Just like his soft captain.

Yes and no. If Butters knew he wasn't able to provide for his team he should've put his hand up.
I reckon he felt like he did alright last week so was good to go again this week.

Port's problems are not with the coach or list, but with Koch and Davies and their refusal to rebuild. Both have come out in recent years arrogantly calling any club rebuilding as excusing failure. You cannot have a proper tilt for the premiership without either getting a healthy leg-up through NGA or father-sons, or going through a rebuild.
Port will again try to find the missing piece and grab depth players from other clubs. They can't all be Aliir's who they turned into an AA KPD. All their draft picks can't be Rozee or Butters either. Port have done a few things right, but many things wrong. Unfortunately for them, they are now stuck with some genuine stars, but rubbish outside of that so they may just waste those stars' careers.
