Inglis because I'd rather a proper keeper than a batsman who wears some gloves while fielding. It's not like Inglis can't hold a bat anyway, and Carey hasn't been in amazing form lately.

Has done an excellent job captaining the Strikers and the Redbacks when given the opportunity. Has earned his right to wear the gloves in the test team.
You don't give captaincy to somebody who hasn't even played at the level.

Barely got a run all season and his keeping is average. Might as well get Wade keeping

I do agree with that. But he is experienced in the ODI team, and there is no one better - Smith/Warner can't get it, Green too young, Head/Khawaja/Harris not entrenched in the team, Marnus is a bit of a dill, and no bowler has shown any captaincy traits whatsoever. Carey is the best option to captain at the present time.

Usman for temporary captain? Just won a shield as captain etc.

Shame Peirson's keeping isn't at the same level as Inglis and Carey so he won't get a look in. Won shield as captain in 2017/18, Heat captain, one of the most respected guys in the domestic scene atm from what I have heard, hasn't sent his dick pics to any women lately as far as I know.

1. Warner
2. Harris/Khawaja???
3. Labs
4. Smith
5. Head/Khawaja???
6. Green
7. Carey/Inglis???
8. Cummins
9. Lyon/ Sweepson (smokey)
10. Starc/Richardson/???
11. Hazelwood

- A couple of spots up for grabs, interesting that no WK has been named in the Ashes squad. I wonder if the selectors would be tempted to play both Khawaja and Head since the first 2 tests are at the Gabba and Adelaide. Both batsmen home grounds. It would mean Khawaja would open instead of Marcus Harris.
- I assume the quicks would be rotated, especially Hazelwood since he's played the IPL and World T20. This would mean Richardson should get a game at some point, possibly for the pink ball test.

I know that Paine can sometimes give the impression that he is a radio DJ but his full time job is in fact as a wicket keeper.

Soo Aus does need a Wicket Keeper after all :p Not a full time keeper anymore...

Head/Khawaja/Harris are all more entrenched in the Team given they've actually played cricket.

Head, Khawaja, and Cummins are far more reasonable options.

Incorrect. If you give Carey the gloves, he automatically becomes more entrenched in the team than Khawaja/Head/Harris. Those aforementioned 3 are likely to be dropped during the series. Carey with the gloves would not be dropped.

Pierson’s an outside chance. Only just started batting well last year but, his keeping at times let’s him down

I’d play Swepson and Jhye Richardson in the first test. I’d also probably swap Paine for Inglis, but you can’t exactly drop the test captain …

1. Warner
2. Harris
3. Labuschsgne
4. Smith
5. Khawaja
6. Green
7. Inglis
8. Cummins
9. Richardson
10. Hazlewood
11. Swepson

Make it happen George

Mate, he hasn't even played Test cricket and his Shield is only good without being exceptional.

If we made Carey captain and he averaged 20-odd for the series it would be absolutely disastrous. Even if he managed to average what he does in the Shield he wouldn't be entrenched because his glove work will likely be sub-par for a Test keeper.

All of this isn't to mention the fact that thrusting captaincy upon a debuting player is an enormous responsibility to place on someone that has no experience at the level.

Exactly realistically Labuschange, Smith, Cummins, Hazelwood and Lyon are the only ones that are safe enough with their spot in the side to be captain

Is a mature candidate and the most in form with the bat. If Carey or Inglis fail or Paine plays on for this summer he could still move up the pecking order

Inglis or just go Wade
