He's in front of Usman. If you take the view that part of the reason Usman got dropped was because he has a terrible front foot game that won't lead to constant success at test level, he's done nothing to disprove that lately, his innings in the current shield match a perfect example of that. 54 off 134. Decent enough. But he scored 10 boundaries You could say it's 14 off 124. He went over a hour this morning without scoring a single, mainly because Copeland was keeping it fullish at around off-stump and Usman wouldn't go forward. And with three slips in place he had the gaps to pick. He got into his usual trench. The first ball Reardon faced off Copeland, he took a big stride forward and tapped it to the gap at extra cover. That would have been more impressive to the selectors than the whole of Usman's innings.

As long as Usman can't play off the front foot, Klinger's in front of him.
