Australia v England First Ashes Test at the Gabba - 2017

Wow. Again this is why I liked England slow 300 and willingness to occupy the crease. Our batsmen are either shite (Kwaja v spin), inexperienced (Ban and Hands) or generally inconsistent (Marsh) or good at stupidly/needlessly getting themselves out (Warner).

If Warner proceeds to have another summer like last year where he stupidly gets or runs himself out every innings I will scream. Just has to be better.

Personally, I think they're being nice. It's not a good thing to shit all over the guy on international television. I think they're talking out the side of their mouth and trying to find excuses to support him.
Commentators have been shit for years, go back to the Benauds era and they said what they wanted not being fake nice to spare a guy's feelings.

Times have changed. The only time they'd do that these days is when they're intentionally trying to get themselves in the headlines. If anything, I'd argue that we're too bloody PC as a society and this is a reflection of that.

The only mentally strong batsman that we have is the captain. Sadly his mates have the mental toughness of Greg Norman at the Masters.

A pitifully fragile team that relies on a flat track to fire a shot.

Aye. People were bagging out stonewall and vince but they played a calm innings and really set england up

Meanwhile our most experienced batsman gets anxios when his strike rate drops below 70

Initially, I could understand the people who accused England of playing for a draw. I did originally before I gave it some thought. Perhaps they even were in the short term. However, we have four bowlers in this team. Guys like Smith who can toss a few overs aren't risked due to potential for injury (Steve Waugh syndrome). History demonstrates that the health and longevity of our bowlers just isn't there. You play a slow steady innings and bat as long as you possibly can. Make them bowl over after over after over. While I'm certain that England would have been somewhat disappointed with their morning session and would have liked to have batted longer the strategy was the right call. If they can dig in again in the second innings and have a good innings in their first next test then they'll be coming up roses towards the end of the series.

It's a test series not a one off test.

We must add an all rounder to the team for the next test. Hopefully Maxwell.

Yeah I cannot understand this. Two of the three highest scorers in the match so far but apparently they may be ruing their strike rate:drunk:

It's fine to pick an all rounder if Smith is prepared to bowl him for more than six overs per Test!
