Test Pakistan v England (3 Test Matches)

The better modern tailend batsmen bazball already, and it works pretty well for them in confidently taking on bowling without letting such petty things as technique get in the way. Think southee in this nz India game or sajid twatting 48 off 48.

The idea with these England guys is to give top order players a tailender mentality. So Pope can play forward to a back of a length turner without worrying that such shithousery will cramp his style.

Bazball started with a crop of below-par test batsmen averaging mid-30s and it still has a crop of below-par test batsmen averaging mid-30s.

They did it before, people are right. They played attacking cricket without throwing their wicket away however. For someone who spends all his day in this forum you really know nothing.

Bazball is an extension of attacking cricket that is higher risk. Australia played attacking cricket but at a lower risk than Bazball. Simple. But you know according to you Australia are satan incarnate and have never done anything worthwhile.

Jog on brother. There’s a rally in Corowa that need someone to hand the masks out. I’m not wrapping them you clown.
Of course people played attacking cricket before.

Saying this has been done before is like saying ‘this has been done before’ when Shane Warne came along because people had bowled leg spin previously.

Yes it had been done but not at the extreme that he did it.
People have always attacked. Gilbert Jessop did it. George Bonnor did it. Victor Trumper did it.
No one has scored this consistently fast in history, though. Debate its effectiveness all you want. But that’s not what is being argued.

Twenty20 cricket had been done before - Martin Crowe’s CricketMax - do you think that his product was at the extent of t20

Hang on I’d better go suck off Michael Slater because he crushed a few hundreds at a strike rate in the 50s

A bit of credit needs to go to Pakistan here, they got their foot on Englands throat and they didn’t let up. Shakeel was magnificent, and the tail did their job.

Ali and Khan changed their length and speeds beautifully to trap the English bats in no man’s land.

Stokes looks like he needs a few months off, weight of the world on his shoulders. That leave to be trapped LBW was as bad as you’ll ever see.

The amount of park cricket hacks that England played in the two Tests they lost would a worthwhile stat to compile. Looked like the last over of a mid week 3rd grade T20 most of the time.

I really need to get my cricket database ready, then we could definitively answer questions like this

Stokes does look absolutely shot.

I recall he came back to the England ODI side after announcing his retirement from 50 over cricket? Bad move in hindsight.

That interview is shocking.

Be stubborn about your attitude to the game. Be stubborn about attacking. It’s given their cricket a new lease on life and made them really watchable.

A one syllable refusal to say they could have done anything different in a two test capitulation is petulant and stupid.

Can you, for instance, attack differently Ben? Can you formulate an attacking strategy where you use different shots? Where you put a focus on ones, twos and threes rather than boundaries? Where you target one bowler? Where you focus on a different area of the field? F**k me.

The disdain he shows for being asked a fair and reasonable question here is incredible. It is genuinely a cult.

McCullum was the exact same when questioned by Hussain.

Baz got a bit annoyed by Athers asking about bowling consultant Jimmy Anderson not being in Pakistan until day two of the first test while Jimmy stayed back in England playing golf.

For a team who want to give something exciting to cricket - and I believe they are genuine about that - and who say they want to change things and be different, they only have to do a couple of things actually differently to be reasonably likeable yet are still so far from it
Like valuing one’s own wicket a bit higher, and trying to bowl accurately when the oppo gets to six or seven down

Not even the former.

I think you’re pushing shit up hill if you think they are going to lose the ‘attack at all costs mentality’ mate and the quicker you accept that the better. You’re just going to be disappointed regardless of the results otherwise because even in the victories you are going to find small defeats.

Over-valuing one’s wicket has gotten them into just as much if not more problems in the past.

But perhaps learning what kinds of attacking work and what don’t, in varying circumstances and simply fronting up and saying ‘we got that one wrong’ would immediately help. That would be a huge step in the right direction. Humility in defeat. Just simply finding the ability to go ‘we got our gameplan to such and such a bowler wrong.’

I only said a bit higher. Meaning if you’ve just seen the bloke before you get himself out sweeping then maybe don’t sweep the same sort of ball.

I am hard on England but I am fair. Because I am hard, you will not like me. But the more you hate me, the more you will learn.

Oh absolutely I don’t get how they can keep seeing guys get out playing the same kind of shot and then trying it themselves thinking it’s going to bring a different result when they’re not even good AT that type of shot.

Go as hard at them as you like mate, they’re in the triumvirate of teams I don’t like - which probably seems odd as I’ve defended their current era more than probably anyone on here.

I just respect that they were going absolutely nowhere - and sinking without trace - and decided to do something drastic about it and have been very single minded about it, to the point where it had squeezed results out of an XI that for the most part, it shouldn’t have. It’s very rarely featured any more than 2-3 world class cricketers so it gets my respect for that.

The bullshit that’s come with it, doesn’t.

Baz is a smug arseh*le. And it's rubbed off the whole English side.

I still love this moment and will never forget when Starcy knocked him over for a duck in the WC final.

One of the great moments of Australian Cricket.

Couldn't happen to a nicer flog

Spirit of Cricket BAZ???

Just one of many questionable incidents he was involved in - one only needs to google his name

Absolutely amazing that he chose to take the high moral ground after Lord's in view of his previous history.

I don’t agree with the garbage that has been perpetuated by England but he has come out since his days as a player and openly said he regrets things that happened under his watch on the field as a player

Well that might be the case but as I stated, it doesn't make it right for him to claim the high moral ground over the Lords incident - which actually wasn't an incident at all. It was a legitimate dismissal, one that Bairstow himself had attempted previously.

I didn’t agree with the dismissal but I also do agree with your first point
