some of the names that got no opportunities to limited in the 90's to early 2000 is incredible. We missed out on seeing some great test batsmen....Jamie Cox, Martyn (missed a big chunk of his career), Elliott, Love, Bevan, Hodge, Voges, Lehmann, Siddons,Maher, DiVenuto and probably plenty more

A few did get some chance but another era they probably play a number of tests. That was close to the greatest modern day test side to get into. The Invisibles was before my time

Just hope they go McSweeney now should announce it now imo
No need to make a call before the next Australia A game, lets see how McSweeney goes as a opener and I would open him with Harris and even if McSweeney fails in the next A game would include him in the 14 team squad for the 1st test.To who ever open lets see results from the upcoming A game first.A tough decision for the Australian selectors.

What's the point, just make the call now, it's better for the player anyway. It's not a tough decision at all, one is 25 years old and hasn't failed multiple times. It's an easy call. He is in form and justifies his spot on form

He has never opened before Luke so I would like to see it before we pick him as an opener for the first test...thats why

plus you have Harris and Konstas still in the mix Bancroft is gone due to his lack of form....and there is also Webster who is in good form and could be picked as the allrounder and someone else opens like marnus.....and you have inglis in form

so thats the point make the decision after the games are played

The old NSW propaganda campaign in full swing for Konstas.
You're imagining things.

Everyone for excited after his twin tons - from almost every media outlet, from every state, all the talking heads, and on this board, too. But since then, they've all backtracked.

I'd be surprised if you could find more than one article from the last few days arguing for Konstas. When I went hunting, all I found was this:

The words “Harris in the mix” you want to join the selectors out the back too? They won’t pick Konstas yet.

Unlucky... would have been good if he made another 100 to push his case.

He is 19 year old, probably could have did without all the commentary, Phil Hughes all over, just let him play without bagging him out.

This series has the potential to resemble England's car crash of an Ashes tour here in 2013-14 or India's 4-0 series loss here in 2011-12 if Australia starts well. An Indian series win would be like a last hurrah for a formidable test team, a bit England's series win in India in late 2012.

Why are these idiots batting Konstas at 4?
Just open with McSweeney and Konstas and be done with it

Experience, lets be real have more of an issue of wasting time with Harris and Bancroft than that. Glad McSweeney is opening.

Because Harris would be next in line behind McSweeney
Would think McSweeney would be at least in the 14 man squad even if he failed as a opener.I think the selectors would at this stage would prefer an experienced opener and Harris would be in front of Bancroft and Renshaw but as we all know the 3 are not performing at the moment. No way do want Harris in the squad as a reserve batsman and good experience for Konstas if he gets runs in the A game and Mc Sweeney is the opener.Tough decision for the selectors and a lot of pressure on these guys after the vacant opener,s position.

I hope not the selectors should be taken out the back if they put Harris in over McSweeney who is a better bat, a significantly better fielder and a captaincy candidate in the future. Not a hard decision at all, Harris in the squad as the cover bat and I'll be reluctantly okay with that, but McSweeney plays.

Someone has to be the cover bat and a cover bowler the latter one will be Boland/Neser take your pick. There's no Shield games anyway, Harris travels as cover

If Mc Sweeney is the opener I would go Konstas as the reserve player (depends a lot on what he does next A game). If Harris is the opener I would have Mc Sweeney.Good spot for a young player to be around the test group.Bowlers might be different, they might rotate them.

Don't agree and it's purely and simply you have to assume a player is unfit to take their place concussion whatever. I love Konstas but he will benefit massively from another year domestically and taking over from Usman Khawaja after next Ashes. In the meantime play the NSW games, even the BbL. I Can't stand Harris you know that but right now if there is a concussion to anyone he's the most ready, it's him or Inglis they may go Inglis if they are half okay with Lab opening.

Inglis as cover for sure, can cover the most positions in the batting order, best of all of them on pure talent.

let's be done with harris, bancroft and renshaw.

should be able to build a side around head, marnus, green and mcsweeney with the likes of smith, marsh, usman about for a little longer.

might make more sense as inglis as the reserve bat in the squad and also covers carey.

otherwise throw in hardie or webster as the reserve.
