It's one ODI dead rubber in a series that means basically nothing compared to the chance for him to watch his wife play in a World Cup Final at home, something that they probably won't get the chance to do again.
Probably a decent chance that they would have rested him anyway and given Hazelwood or Richardson a game instead.

I expect sportspeople representing my country to do it when being paid handsomely to do so, not flying home (at CA expense?) for a family members sporting event. (save for deaths, births, illness etc)
