Would you rather he average 40 in the Shield but spin the ball? Would that make his selection more palatable?

Well that's an extreme option now isn't it. I'd rather he be up to test cricket outside of the subcontinent but he won't be.

He's bowled fine in the limited Test action he's seen in Australia.

A lot of people seem more concerned the aesthetics than results though, so there'll probably always be a segment that assume not turning it square = ineffective, no matter what hard evidence of wicket-taking or run-saving is put in front of them.

I did and I did. Have said far more on him than that, ask CC, have doubted his ability outside asia for quite a while.

O'Keefe is a pretty decent bowler, certainly a heap better than a heap of the other spin bowling bums that have been given Test caps in the last decade. Maybe not great but neither is Lyon really.
