Sewell Sub Decision
Yes - I'm a Geelong supporter commenting on the hawks board.
What was with Clarkson subbing brad sewell? his first possessions in the first 3 qtrs (1st half in particular) were killing the crows centre square.
Why on earth would you sub him off???? Not rubbing it in, just posing the question as a neutral supporter watching tonight's game.

Was worried during the NAB when I saw the empty back yard. Thought it was just new kids learning. But maybe the older guys haven't learnt to stay at home.
More likely that bloody gnome Clarkson has told them to flood forward.
Intensity by some players in the final quarter did wane, decision making was appaling after about the first quarter, conditions don't suit our 'game style' and the crowd persuaded the umpires brilliantly...
Very angry with the performance because we still manage to lose the games we should win, and I still believe that the belief isn't there.

Sorry people. Im over it. To squander 30pts is just not good enough. Look to more of the same as the last two years. I saw nothing that can convince me that we are a better team than the last couple of years.

Absolutely worst decision ever and probably cost ust the game.
If anyone should have been subbed of it should have been shiels. Young legs - Tired - Lost his decision making ability and importantly - like for like.
I reiterate - Worst decision ever.
Besides which - What was Clarkson doing all night? Was he a coach or a spectator?

New game plan, same rubbish. The number of times we hand-balled to a guy under pressure flat footed astounded me.
Still, Whilst I want to ven and unload on a few people, it's round one. time to take stock and judge us after round 4/5. Really disappointed though. A game we should have won, 5 goals up and playing well.

Was it tired legs and players waning or a game plan that didn't hold up?
Some rookie decisions and plays happening late in the third onwards, but some serious holes in the game plan (a quick turnover would result in a goal). Might be time to disect the game plan once and for all?

only thing I can think of is that Sam and Brad played about 90% of the game in the midfield - first time since mid 2009.
I reckon we were worried about blowing them up. Given Sammy played 25 minutes for 3 touches in the last, perhaps the wrong player went off.

So pissed off at the umpires, can't believe how you can change a game like that. Can't wait to read the newspapers tomorrow, the Crows will be favourites to win the premiership according to our world class sports writers

CRAP UMPIRING! SUCKLING AND WHITECROSS back to the VFL........ DISGRACEFUL. Suckling numerious kick ins out on the fool and White Cross does not make a good sub. He just couldnt get into the game and then turned the ball over numerious time when the game was up for the grabs..... Sewell SUB? DUMB ARSE MOVE!
How could we not out run them in the last? Turnovers killed us.
I don't know about everyone else but my heart stops when the other team is on the rebound and somebody kicks more than 50 metres.

While it could've been fatigue for Sewell I actually wasn't overly impressed with Sewell. While he may have gotten first disposal or a clearance a lot of the time they were rarely effective. Just needs a few more matches I think, probably a symptom of our older players in general, possibly as a result for our lack of respect paid to the preseason.
Anyway bring back...Guerra, Murphy & Hodge

That was the second most disapointing game in recent memory. To play so well in the first half, surrender a 30 point lead and look so tired.
Some points:
1) We look so tired out there in the last quarter. We were supposed to be the side full of running. We had the fresh sub (although i don't rate whitecross at all), adelaide had the injuries. We had the wind. Haven't we just meant to have had a great pre season?
2) Franklin drops way too many easy marks and kicks to poorly in front of goal. I don't want to go as far as to say that he cost us the match, but if he kicks straight we still win. At the end of his career it's gonna be the difference between him being a great player, and one of THE great players.
3) I thought Sewell was best on ground up until half time. Why in the name of all that's holy was he subbed off?
4) I realize that we are using a forward press, but we have to have SOME kind of cover when they break through. Everytime they moved it quickly they had loose men in the forward line 50 metres on their own.
5) Of the aging premiership players on the brink i thought Batemen was just ok, ladson was great early and hardly sighted late (had some mates) and Osborne didn't do enough to justify his place in the team. Was enraged when he had the ball 50 out early in the last term with a significant wind at his back, but instead turned the ball over. Also thought Bruce had a game he'd rather forget. Not sold on him at all.

Hopefully he doesnt wait until round8 before he realises his preseason stuff doesnt work.
Push forward, smashed on rebound with an empty back half. Defensive pressure was near non existent.
To cough up a lead like we had shows where we are realistically at. I think we got caught up in the preseason hype as usual.

Till the game started I was trying hard to stay positive and convince myself we will be better than the last 2 years.
Unfortunately it was another game another year but seriously nothing else has changed! They were playing well whilst all was going ok once the pressure was on them they made the same mistakes and lost a game which they should have as Crows were down with 2 players injured.
Anyway I am over it!!
