I'm feverishly trying to work out the reasons for Tahl's shock departure. May be an issue with juggling other (paid) journalistic commitments?

With JG Hornet going AWOL for a few weeks to some place called Beijing for a stupid 2 week sporting gymkhana, it may be time for some seasoned scribing veterans to step up and fill the breach!!!

Wanna BRING BACK THE BRAIN?

tommy should be straight back in to take A and B section.

It was like Brian Johnstone trying to replace Bon Scott, Tahl had no chance. Crownies2, can you try to reach the great man and tell him the VAFA needs him...Bring back Brainco ASAP!!!

Yeah stuff Beitzel

Can someone fill me in on what happened to Tahl? I thought he showed promise. Did his spilt coke incident dampen his spirit, together with the upholstery? And what odds on a Jason Cave or Ben Carbonaro column?
I'm not sure Jas could handle only having a 1 & 1/2 page spread.. unless he was to use size 2 font... and there is only so many "best (insert genre) team of the year" I can handle..

Where's Jesper???

Who was the early 90s A Grade scribe? Don someone? Blackwood?

Beitzel had a love affair with all things ammos there for a while. You could spot him at Thurs training if your team was in the match of the round on Ch31 asking who was who. He took a real shining to some of the big names back in those days.....Lethlean especially.
I wonder if he gets into the nets for his district cricket reports???

I know what happened.......

.....and I'm not telling. :p

Don Blackwood - honest, no idea where he is now
Jason Frenkel - moved to the Hun after a couple of years
Cameron Noakes - ditto, but The Age
Jesper Fjelstad - ditto but The Adelaide Advertiser(!)
Beitzel - ditto but the Leader Group local newspapers

Jonothan Horn - prefers editing glossy mags about expensive bikes, high-tech swimsuits and shaved legs over the daily fish n chip wrappers.
Wise man that Horn.

Beitzel was a bit hit and miss with his commentary. He once mistook me for David Burrows on a Ch 31 telecast, DBuzz was recovering from a hamstring on the sidelines whilst the ch 31 guys thought it was him missing targets all over the place and getting dragged halfway through the 3rd term.

Fraser go on tell us mate, we're itching. I never even got to meet the said Learned Lerner.

Don Blackwood was pretty good – I used to like his stuff a lot.
Noakes writes 1 somewhat bemusing article each week about The Punt and the rest of his time is taken by his wine bar in Fitzroy.
Never caught the fine work of Jesper FJelstad but I understand him to a figure of considerable derision. The wise folk at Old Xavs were particularly flabbergasted by his work.

Ha, the guy before was correct. Beizel would rock up to training on a Thursday in his tracksuit and suss you out. He only called us once and he potted me – "Horn, haven't called his name much today!". He would also conduct very intense pre match interviews. And before I forget, he was the author of the "For The Love Of The Game" column, which consisted of him talking about bumping into Michah Barry at the local drycleaners and banging on about that for 10 paragraphs.

Don't get me wrong, Brad was pretty good and knows his stuff. Look at his wrap of the Xavs flag in 2000 or so. Very passionate Brad.

Beauy vs SKOB - Anyone know where Cheltenham Reserve is???
OEG vs Old Camb - Lets just hope OEG kick straight this week.
CG vs Stb - Which Caulfield will turn up? Kellaway to play?
OM vs OC - No real reason apart from the game is at the Junction.
Marc vs OH - This will be a cracker and may just close the final 4 if Marcellin win.
Probably not, but the whispers around the traps are that Glenn Archer and Anthony Stevens are ready to go.

Just thought someone with the Ammos knowledge of the Hornet would have known better than to get Ken Bruce's name wrong!

Good to know you've got his back Hater!
just keeping my hopes alive that i may one day get a mention in the Thursday rag, even if it is only my virtual alias... its actually the only reason i post on BF, a means to an end so to speak..

I dont think he got over Bernards Footy boss confronting him at Haileybury.

Taken from Bernards website:

Funny moment of the day
Chairman of Selectors John Potter gets the stitch up award … he complained to Football Director Paul Garth that a bloke taking notes on our players was obviously a spy from Marcellin. When the alleged spy came over to the huddle at three qtr time Pottsy pointed him out to Garthy who immediately stormed over and politely told the bloke to “…. off” only to find out he was actually the VAFA scribe Tahl Lerner who was reporting on the game. A bewildered Tahl pointed to his picture in the VAFA footy record as evidence of his innocence after which an apologetic Garthy allowed Tahl to stay and listen to coach Madden’s address.
