Bailey says no to Brown

Good call. We don't want any more people turning up to our games other than close friends and family. It's nice to have the entire southern stand to myself! ;)

It's a rather timely call from a coach that was picked by "the previous" administration. Surely he would be feeling the heat and would be only too willing to act as a puppet for the President. Any show of support for Brown could look like support for the former CEO.

IMO: JB is a marquee player and we currently have none. The passion he had for the State of Origin game alone was reminiscent of Ted Whitten.

Just on that too. I find "Giving the kids a go" is one of the biggest loads of shit you will ever come across. It is a complete cop out and it does nothing other that lower the expectations of the supporters and give the coach some breathing room.

It's a part of the game that I absolutely hate. Rebuilding and "giving the kids a go" were called shit seasons a decade ago. Bailey is a goose if he honestly doesn't see Brown as part of the picture. 3 premierships and a great leader are few and far between.

after a gap of 10 years

What chance would McNamee have in getting Brown to Melbourne? He was the only person at Melbourne who could pull off the deal. He got McEnroe, Graf, Becker, Federer, the Williams sisters and a host of tennis players to the Hopman Cup and he did talk Greg Norman after a gap of 10 years and everyone of australia's top golfers to play in the Australian Open .

Clearly he has demonstrated that he can talk the talk and why wouldn't we want Brown he would have filled the stands and sold memberships. Our younger players would have walked taller.

Melbourne only has 23000 members.

While Dean Bailley looks over his shoulder at Connolly aka Blight and Thomas - a youth policy will lead to the death of the demons and we will become the Tasmanian Demons.

Thers not a chance in hell brown was ever coming to melbourne anyway. And yes i agree with baileys youth policy. Whats the point in paying a guy around a million a season over the next 4-5 years who's performance will be declining and when we wont be in a position to challenge for a flag anyway. All it will do is tighten our salary cap and make it very restraining for any futher negotiations.

Have a look at carlton and what signing judd has done. They now have fev out of contract wanting the big bucks but also have 3 #1 picks to resign in the upcoming years in murphy, gibbs and kruezer. They wont be able to add any other talent for years unless they are taking a significant pay cut to play at carlton there.

Btw : Fraser and Coll 1st round pick for Fevola......thats the deal ive heard that will be done

Getting a genuine on field leader is something Melbourne needs. I don't know how much you have had to do with actual playing of football but an on field leader like Brown would help the development of the younger players at a rate far greater that what they currently are at.

You are right with Judd going to Carlton. It's upped their memberships and the big sook Fev is having a cry. I'll challenge your comment by saying Melbourne doesn't have anyone of Fev's skill or status so it is not really a concern.

Playing the kids is a joke if all they are doing is getting belted and no serious on field leadership. Bad call Dee's and rest assure this football club will not play finals for years to come.

I was surprised dee-molishon man that you didn't have a shot at the membership number.

Stynes quoted Melbourne as having

Adult 21, 925 con 2153 junior 5,541 total 29. 619 AFL figures

However honest Jim should have said that He included 7000 MCC members who pay the massive sum of $40 .

No other Melbourne AFL Club includes these as members and you go on about youth policy, it is likely to be a death sentence

We needed a marquis player eg Brwon.

You idiot. Go back and support the soccer.

I'm still waiting for somebody to tell me how we would have gotten Brown. The people who are having a cry about this are probably the same ones who are desperate to pick up a ruckman with questionable skills just because he's got a funny haircut.

+6500 you dunce.

thank you for the ringing endorsement but you should try reading the post

Melbourne includes 7000 MCC members who pay $40 only compare this to a full membership price or even a country membership.

p.s Richmond & Collingwood don't include their MCC members neither did Essendon when at the MCC

Hey 29000 does look better but in reality you have 23000 members that line up with other clubs

Never had an interest in the sport. Good solid comeback though.

But if you buy into rebuilding and giving the kids a go, maybe competitive sports aren't your bag. Every team should be aiming for finals and I have stated that rebuilding and etc are just ways a coach can buy himself time and a way to write off a 2-20 season.

Brown is a guy who can win games off his own boot and bring people to the game. Name 1 player that is a genuine drawcard from Melbourne FC.

Melbourne has what many clubs do not. Room in the salary cap.

The almighty dollar overcomes all loyalties.

Did I say soccer? Sorry, should have said NBA.

Okay so you did a quick scroll through my previous posts. You'll probably notice there is a reasonable amount of footy covered in it.

I think I'm experienced enough with football to make comments about who would be good for a team from District level footy to AFL. If you have been part of a team you will understand there are guys who can lift a team just from their presence. You will find a few of them floating around in the AFL today and there are none at Melbourne. JB is the greatest of them all.

I agree 100%. Just because our current list arent challenging for finals, doesnt mean that JB could not turn that around, especially if he starts kicking bags. I know he is only one player, but as said before he is a leader, and leaders cause others players, especially younger players of which we have many, to lift. Brown could not only spell on field success, but he would also attract many more of our half arsed supporters to actually come to a game if only to watch him play. That means more $, another thing that we need.
Brown ticks many boxes for us.

I'm glad some are agreeing with me. On field leadership is probably a little undervalued by some. Playing kids is great. No doubt there. But they have to learn from someone.

Brown has reportedly one of the highest work rates on the training track, he works hard in the gym, and is apparently a champion guy to have a few beers with. He would have more respect from the players than the coaching panel combined.

Brown is a guy you could build a club on the back of. He probably wont be part of a MFC Premiership, but I would bet on him getting the team on the right track.

You think Brown would just leave Brisbane like that ? I thought he just got a new house and is settled up in Brisbane. I agree with some of your points but I have a hard time thinking Brown would walk out on Brisbane.

Oh really? Where did you get the 7000 figure from?

Oh thats right. Out of your ****ing arseh*le.

No other clubs include theres and no other clubs have 20 000 MCC members. You got that?

Go play in some traffic now.

Could I borrow your trainer wheels.

Melbourne could have 20000 MCC members but they do not contribute to the Melbourne FC. Only 7000 MCC members contribute $40 each to the Melbourne Football Club.

But Melbourne includes those 7000 in their membership which overstates the figure. Essendon has MCC members but they are not included.

With your logic Melbourne would have 29000 + 20000 MCC members. If you contribute no $$$$$$$$$$$ you ain't contributing to Melbourne FC.

i would be open to getting brown, but only if we got him through the PSD... i wouldn't be willing to give up the draft picks required to trade for him...

and on top of that there's no point doing it if the coach didn't want him...
