Such an amazing get by Geelong. The perfect mid for us that we lack. A running with the ball contested type that tackles hard and kicks goals. Elite endurance that no one can keep up with between the arcs, just doesn’t stop and will get out the back a lot in the second halves and kick goals.

A perfect player to go with Holmes for a decade. Both running attacking mids.

Throw in Oliver and we have a complete dynamic midfield.

Oliver - contested inside bull
Holmes - contested explosive runner
Smith - contested endurance runner / goal kicker
Danger - power
Atkins - defensive
Dempsey - outside runner mercurial

Also allows Stewart to be a defender again and an emergency break glass mid if needed

How is smith a goal kicker? He has kicked only 10 goals in total over his past two seasons. He averages less goals per game then holmes and way way less than dangerfield. He has only kicked more then 1 goal in a game 6 times.

Exactly.
I think people are just remembering that final where he banged a couple through.

2021 was a long time ago now - I know October is for dreamers, but it's a long way back for Bailey Smith, and Clarry isn't a sure thing either yet.

Smith is good to go for a full pre-season, which is awesome for Geelong. Barring new injury (hammy's are common after reco's) he should be absolutely cherry ripe for Round 1.
A change of scenery and a fresh start can do wonders for the mentality of players also. Fingers crossed.

I really hope they can somehow get a Clarry deal done, his inside, handball game would compliment Smith, Danger, Holmes and Bruhn's games immensely.. Oliver is the player type we are missing.

Yet we never seem to be trying for a good ruck option.
We had a pretty serious crack at both of Sean Darcy and Brodie Grundy.

We need a ruckman who's a country boy, preferably from Western Victoria, to magically become disaffected at their club :)

Unfortunately, the only good ruckmen spat out by the Falcons in the last 2 years have been Darcy, and Conway.

Yet we never seem to be trying for a good ruck option.

We've had a crack in the past - Sean Darcy before a previous contract extension, a 3 or 4 deal to Goldstein in 2019 before he re-signed with North as he wanted to stay in that area due to family reasons and pretty sure we pitched to Grundy before he opted to go to Melbourne because he was all about the "Melbourne lifestyle"

It's not like we haven't put our hat in the ring, but for whatever reason the only rucks interested in the farming lifestyle have been players like Stanley & Ceglar

Oh, look, if you could bring in 2021-22 level Clayton Oliver along with a good ruckman, we'd be pretty much flag favourites overnight.
I believe we 100% have the ruckman we need in Toby Conway.
Really hope he can overcome his injury concerns and bulk up a little as he has the attributes of a top 5 league ruckman for sure.
Height at 206cm, is right up there with the tallest rucks.
Can find the footy around the ground and in clearance, something Stanley really struggled with.
Is a really good mark.
Bonus, he's a local lad.

Agreed though, IF we can add Oliver to go with Smith, add in a fit Conway, there's no reason we can't be right up there again next season..
