We immediately sent him straight back into defence after that.

I think he could play midfield in the VFL and have some big games, which would help his confidence.

Wouldn’t mind him tagging though in the AFL… god knows there’s always a couple of opposition mids absolutely dominating us each week.

That's one short CHB and I know Merrick is only 27 but not sure how many additional extensions he'll sign beyond the one he did this year

I disagree. For sure there have been mistakes but I’ve seen progress and think he’s worth persisting with.

Feel like he’s too much of a good student, seems to watch his player too much rather than playing the ball. In the centre tagging he is around the ball so maybe he feels like he has no choice but to contest the ball whereas in defence he concentrates on the player rather than attacking the ball
He’s looked his best when he follows his instinct.

He definitely shows flashes and I'm hopeful we get a really good player out of him but I'd like to see him play a full game of midfield and the only place he can do that is in the 2s.
