Speaking completely balanced here, 15 and change will get it done at the end of the day. Dogs will posture, Cats will stand firm and to a certain extent I agree with both clubs position. Cats will get him one way or another. Oliver trade would make things interesting. But that’s a whole other ball game.

Smith can be a genuine gun but there are more than one asterisk against his potential, he’s a genuinely elite trainer and obviously elite self promoter. But he’s had issues off field, coming off an ACL and had a pretty notable dip in form in 22 and 23. Field kicking has always been his weakness so they need to get the run and carry game through him, and for the dogs Treloar and now Richards are probably more reliable.

We haven’t seen him in a dogs jumper in a year so it’s no great loss to our game plan.

The conjecture around cats paying peanuts for players and getting them for unders is there, but they are just playing the game and exploiting the AFLs absolutely ridiculous trade rules.

Cats aren’t an unfair or deluded trading partner, they aren’t Essendon under Dodo.

It gets done late and both clubs won’t be too upset. It’s really up to Bailey to kick on as honestly he’s probably on the precipice of either becoming the player he was slated to or just being a poster boy for cheap jocks.

Depends on what the change is. 15 and 35 would be the minimum you’d think, but Dogs won’t be happy.

I think the club is playing the role publicly it has to for negotiating purposes, angry, might do the PSD thing, etc, but they’d walk away satisfied with something like that, even if he’s worth more if he ever reaches his potential as an inside mid. They only ever offered him 2 years when other clubs were offering 5-6, they haven’t really tried to keep him. The Cats know that. They also know it’s unders if he gets it together on and off field. It’s all a bit of a dance.
