I doubt that they would. I thought the prospect of a Gisborne/Sunbury match was part of the attraction for Gisborne to join. KA might be able to give a better insight though.

I think that would be logical. Why would Gisborne want to travel 1hr and 20min to play all the Ballarat sides if they didnt get a lot of short trips to sunbury, melton and bacchus marsh aswell. They might aswell stay in the Bendigo comp and travel 40 mins up the highway every second week.

On the other hand the league really needs to do something about either getting a new club to the BFL or reducing a team to eliminate the bye.
Only other clubs that I could see coming accross would be Hepburn, Bunniyong and possibly Waubra however I dont see the incentive for them to come accross when they are always competing for flags unless they would like to stretch themselves against superior competition than they currently face.

Optimally the league would operate at 10 teams which would allow everyone to play each other home and away, eliminating the bye and being fairer all round.

The CHFL also has more traditional rivals and a stronger supporter base than the BFL. Granted, I haven't seen much CHFL football, but at the games I have seen, their crowds dwarf those in the BFL, particularly in Ballarat itself.

Sorry if i sound like a broken record but sebas should seriously consider a move to the chfl. Elimate the bye and we also wouldnt have to lock our cars & changrooms up when we travel there anymore

Well you really are starting to sound like a broken record, maybe we could all play down in Melton or the Marsh on the basis that they are such fine upstanding and crime free communities, and if you dont lock your car at every football ground you go to then you have issues bigger than just bagging sebas every few posts, after all they did finish last didnt they????????? ......oh no looks like they didnt after all.

How about every club that finishes last in the BFL moves to the CHFL the year after. Make it a 29 team comp before long. Then maybe Port Adelaide could come in to eliminate the bye.

If Sunbury go to the EDFL in 2013.....that will be the case.

If Sunbury do go, they will have to start off in Division 2 I believe.

If that's the case then I would think that would be a fairly big disincentive to transfer. Considering the standard and success of the sides moving up from B to A grade in the EDFL recently, the EDFL would be wise to let sunbury in A grade straight up.

The bfl has real issues like many leagues and the vcfl need to help clean it up and create synergies amongst clubs and leagues. The ol chestnut of it is a better standard is being ignored by players and spectators for bigger crowds, greater town v town rivalries, less travel as a whole and competitive money to good players by the minor and district leagues. It has been a terrific league for a long long time. I think despite the best efforts of all involved creating the link and connectedness between the eastern and western block communities has just not worked. The players still enjoy playing I assume but the community of both blocks just is not supporting the concept with their attendance. You just need to go to a chfl or rdfl gf to see the atmosphere and crowd involvement as opposed to bfl to clearly see the difference.

The issue would be the B grade clubs opposing.

A club from the WRFL looked at moving across after dominating Div 1 for years but were told they had to start in B grade......they didn't want to and stayed put.

If it's the same option for Sunbury....you think they would stay in the BFL.

With an extremely competitive B Grade competition in EDFL this year with only 4 points separating the top 4 teams in Pascoe Vale, West Coburg, East keilor & North Coburg I doubt any of these clubs would be too happy if the EDFL told them they couldn’t be promoted to allow Sunbury straight into A Grade. There is also no guarantee that Sunbury would win the B Grade flag in their first year, Pascoe Vale would have a budget over 200k this year, and Sunbury only have to talk to Craigieburn who when they first entered the B Grade comp expected to dominate and then dominate A grade, they did eventually win a B grade flag but have struggled to match the top teams each year in A Grade.

In saying that I think Sunbury are a better football club on and off the park than Craigieburn and that as long as they kept their list together they should win the B grade flag first year, all though won’t be easy with much smaller grounds than BFL with different playing styles and then should be competitive with the top A grade sides. Having been involved with the RDFL, BFL & now EDFL the benefits for Sunbury, higher standard, better administration, No Ballarat umpiring bias and all games would be within a 30min commute from Sunbury so could attract better players, better sponsors etc far outweigh the negatives of having to spend a year in B grade and not being able to charge entry for home games.

How do you think an East vs West 'all star' type game would be receieved?

Isnt the issue that there is an East v West mentality that means the league is not at one, so cant see that being the answer.

Red tape would stop it happening but maybe the VCFL can intervene to make it happen but the best thing for footy in the region would be for CHFL & BFL to merge and have a 2 division competition. It creates interest for the whole season at the top and the bottom of the ladder.

Isn't there like 18 teams in the CHFL already?

If that is the case prob makes the case stronger, and could do away with Melton, South & sunbury whose regions are no longer country and should be playing in metro comps and have it purely as a Ballarat/Goldfields competition..

Thats a good point.

Back to your other comment....I wouldn't think that EDFL B Grade would be better or on Par with the BFL.

Will be interesting to see the fallout from this though. From what i've heard Callander is pretty popular with the guys over there and it's not like he has done a bad job either. Might prove to be an unpopular decision.

Not one of the CHFL clubs would be interested in this so it won't be happening any time soon

Who's peoples picks for the GF match up?

Sunbury vs Redan for me.

Where are Sunbury playing their "home" final this year considering Clark oval is out due to council issues...
