Pretty good game in the end, Renegades had a chance, but the openers threw away good starts instead of going on to that 40/50+ to give that total a nudge to the 180-190 it could have been, which possibly makes it a different result.

Still, beating the Sixers at the SCG is very hard to do, I think the Renegades will actually be decent this year and play finals, they have a decent batting lineup, Evans needs to bat at 4 however, feel he's too low down, put him at 4 and Harvey at 5.

Zampa and Richardson are very good T20 bowlers, and if they have good seasons the others should be able to do enough around them.

Just looking at the Renegades roster, not sure they have another true all rounder to bring in. Just bowlers or batters. Bethell is the closest thing once he's done with national duties.

Wells, Dixon, Sandhu, Lyon are the rest.

I would play Wells I know he’s not the gorgeous pick but he’ll do a job an add depth

Sutherland captains like his sister. Dont want captaincy to be a burden on his game. Has too much on his plate: batting, bowling, fielding to worry about.

I know its only first game but the signs aren't good. Gotta remember his sister got them the wooden spoon this year. Will is very much a see ball, hit ball kind of player. Dont want to muddle his mind with other stuff, despite having a reasonable game tonight.

One thing going to Will in terms of captaincy is that he's been Vic's Shield captain for a couple of seasons & stepped in as captain before that when Handscombe was on test duties, he took over one-day captaincy duties this year and last he was VC for the Gades & stepped up when Maddinson was dropped

So he's not exactly coming in cold as captain, but thinking he does need to trust himself to take some more of the responsibility with the ball - happy to see him coming in down the batting order though, as he generally has had his best innings for us coming in around that 15th over where he can play a more natural game rather than trying resurrect an innings

Yeah that A/R would be a nice addition especially as your two openers quite often will have you 2 for stuff all. Rate Brown more though he’s fairly consistent at what he does

Part of me is tempted to see how we'd go with Harvey opening alongside Brown and if they may provide some sort of stability at the top - Harvey is someone who looks better when he can build into his innings, so could we utilise him as a stable type option at one end and then use hitters at the other end

With JFM & Brown opening, we look like we're either going to be 0/100 off 7 or 8 overs, or 2 down for not much, but wondering if JFM coming in down the order as a late innings hitter could offer a bit more freedom for him in that he's not expected to stick around for half an innings

I hate using the WBBL at a prototype but I wonder whether you could use JFM as a specialist surge hitter like Laura Harris was for the Heat. Now on the counter though there is no surge internationally, but if you are asking me for the Gades maybe that's an idea.

In terms of your suggestion, it's pretty similar to what I was thinking about in terms of a role for him this morning and the comparison with Harris as that surge specialist option

And while the surge doesn't exist at international level, until JFM adjusts his mindset which currently seems to be "smack every ball for 6", I don't think he'll have a successful international career - there's something there for coaches to work with, but he needs to learn how to build an innings, when to go & when to take the safe shot as not everything needs to be aerial

Sixers look ominous, early favourites if they keep their squad together. Vince and Moses looked in top touch.
Not sure about building the team around Jack Edwards, if hes opening the bowling and batting at 3 in the back end of the tournament they might be battling uphill.

Edwards was only elevated because of Hughes' injury. He'd usually be at six or so.
