Beamer to test waters of free agency

All the best to him if he decides to part, the AFL have built the system, it's no players fault for wanting that little bit extra. Scully took the cash because of the AFL - we'd all do the same.

I would want to keep him as a leader for the midfield - that is the gaping hole we have at the moment with too many indians and not enough chiefs.

I can't belive anyone is even considering letting him go or saying his best is behind him, he is exactly what we need in form. Agree his form is not currently were we'd like it but I'd still back him to finish the season in the top 5 of the Bluey and will be in the leadership group in 2013.

Of course he is going to do his best to get a bit extra out of us, but to be fair it's not like we'd be needing to spend it anywhere else. Must be a lot of space in the salary cap. A managers job is to get the best deal possible for his client, as I see it that's all this is. I really hope and can't imagine Brent is looking elsewhere.

It does sound like table-talk from the manager to get some more $$$ from the Dees. I think he'd look at some other options, but I can't see him leaving or really getting a better deal elsewhere than he would get at Melbourne. I still see him as an important part of our midfield, so we should do our best to keep him.

He is a massive Melbourne man. But I did hear whispers that he wanted a trade to essendon last year and is keen to get there for next year. I didn't believe that at the time but now I'm not sure. Anyway we can't afford to lose any more experienced players.

heard the rumor as well apparently he has friends at Essendon but for your clubs sake hope you can keep him.

I can see my club having good hard look at him, we have the cap space to throw some big $ around, I imagine already having Adam Maric and Brad Miller would make the transition slightly easier.

If either of them are still there...

As far as I understand it, the Moloney to Essendon rumour was a load of rubbish

In the end most of those rumors are complete rubbish but they get thrown around enough times and people start believing them.

Not sure how to feel about Moloney though. I think he contested ball work us terrific but watch the guy run - he is awfully slow sometimes and that means he finds it harder to run defensively and make that position. Still think he will stay but it's interesting none the less.

Until the likes of Gysberts bulk up and gain fitness (if he could bloody stay on the park) then our clearance specialists are limited, and Brent is vital to our side

Moloney had a third of our clearances vs. Geelong on the weekend

What he's lacking is smooth outside options to pass off too

For years and years we've heard Melbourne lacks grunt in the midfield and is too outside

Now, we're the opposite, we're all grunt, no outside class

This is why it's important for us to get some pacy mids into the side ASAP so we have those running options

Brent played round 1 when clearly he shouldn't have (was clearly injured)

He sat out the next 2 and has been average in the next couple of games (except for his clearance work)

I think we're too quick to shitcan the bloke. He needs a few more games

Absolute crap. I spoke to Beamers old man at the footy and he told me that he was approached by Hird but didn't want a bar of going there coz he loves Melb!

this sounds very right to me.. I think we're in a situation where brents manager knows this will be his last main contract and is going to make sure he gets as much as he can.. I'd be amazed if he goes..

With reference to the two posts above.

Certainly this will be his last big contract and he and his manager will be trying to do the best they can financially.

But consider it's also his last chance to play in a premiership and at the heart of most players that's what it's all about and he must look on somewhat forlornly that he was the sacrificial lamb in Geelong's trade for Ottens - which ironically got them three.

He must also consider that the new broom has swept in and despite what he has provided to the D's (and acknowledging his off field misdemeanours) he has been overlooked for a leadership position at a club that lacks exactly that.

I am not convinced based on limited info that he's overly enraptured with the game plan that is currently implemented at the D's (the quote I heard was "why bring a game plan that's 3 years old and already out of date?") - so it would not surprise me if he did take the option to parachute somewhere else.

Essendon wouldn't offer him a contract that was so large you couldn't match it. At 28 and being an inside midfielder he isn't what we need. We need classy outside players. Very confident will stay with you.

Is this a direct quote of Moloney?

I honestly could not give a rats arse if he walked. He is worth no more than 350k. Take it or leave it i say.

He is getting caught holding the ball more and more these days and his kicking is getting worse by the year.

I agree. As much as I love Beamer, since the free agency has been announced, I've always said we would be likely to lose one of Beamer or Sylvia. I still think Moloney can offer a lot when playing well. But he hasn't taken to our new style or the new coach. And not getting in the leadership must have stung. Maybe Neeld doesn't rate him? But I honestly don't think we would miss Moloney all too much as we have several players of similar ability in the midfield. Sylvia on the other hand is worth trying to keep going forward, and I'm a little nervous this time next year he'll be 'shopping around' also.

I think losing Jamar would hurt more than losing Moloney. Having said that, If Gawn comes good and Fitzpatrick keeps improving, we might not need Jamar. Martin is still a better option as #1 ruck moving forward IMO. More mobile and looked very good as just that when Jamar went down injured last season. Jamar just doesn't do enough around the ground. The ruck role is changing fast with Kreuzer, Nic Nat, Zac Smith, Giles, Ryder all virtually another midfielder. Martin can be of similar value, but Jamar cannot. With Clark, Sellar, Fitz, Spencer and Martin as rucks, we are ok in the ruck stocks.

I'd say if Jamar does leave, we might look to draft a mature ruckman from the VFL/SANFL/WAFL. Jamar is in our leadership group, and I have a good feeling he will sign, but at his age, the lure of a potential flag elsewhere could be too great.

I think a few posters are quick to dismiss Beamer's value to the team. He was our best player last season, and according to many fans he should have been appointed captain. He fits into a crucial age bracket which we are lacking, in fact he is one of the veryfew senior players still in our best 22. His on-field leadership is invaluable, you only have to be at ground level or go to training to witness how he impacts the playing group. Not to mention the fact that he is our best clearance player (yep, better than Jones), a tough, aggressive and passionate player in a team many claim are lacking heart. We're in this whole because of a lack of quality senior players, so getting rid of Beamer will only add to our problems.

Think you are serverly over rating his on field leadership. One of the greatest downhill skiers at our club. The dog has bark but i dont see any bite.

He is leading the competition in hitouts by quite some margin. I think the value of a strong, experienced ruckman can be underrated these days as a lot of young ruckman have greater athletic prowess. But given how the game is played now, stoppages are so crucial and an excellent tap ruckman like Jamar is someone who we should definately try hold on to.

Perhaps leadership is not the right word. I agree with you, he does tend to play much better against the weaker sides (although that's logical) and not as good against the stronger sides. But he still adds something important to the team. Intangible things like his voice, passion, aggression - you can definately get a sense of it close up.

Hence my refrence to the dog with no bite. You hear a lot from Brent on the field but unfortunatley his lack of desire to do anything of a defensive nature isnt what this team needs to be guided by. I understand he is a valuable player for our team (clearence work) but he isnt the kind of guy id be keeping around for intangibles. James McDonald gave us intangibles and that sure as shit didnt save him.

He's a 300k -350k worth of player, no more, if he wants his pay day, power to him, but i wont be crying if he walks.

I have no problem with Brent walking, I don't think I could write a response better then that Rude!!

I don't know enough about 186 to include Brent in this but as a personal opinion I'd actually get rid of anyone associated with organising or supporting the 186 debarcle last year. What an embaressment.

Green, Rivers and whoever else i'd say goodbye to you all weak embaressments who don't deserve to wear the red and blue
