Beams not attending Pies B&F

Buddy didn't go to the hawks b&f at the end of 2013

It would be a difficult situation to be in - slightly uncomfortable for everyone. He doesn't want to be there anymore and pies while sympathetic are going to play hardball - makes for an uncomfortable situation for everyone and he obviously didn't want to be put in that situation.

I really like beams and hope he gets the trade he wants but On the other hand that photo is a big **** you to the pies and that is pretty poor tbh

The thing with Buddy was he had already gone, a deal still needs to be struck out between Brisbane and Collingwood, which is far from any sort of conclusion. If a deal doesn't get done he is going to have one hell of a long year and he only has himself to blame.

If Collingwood are playing hardball, why should he show any loyalty to the club? If I was in the same situation and it was made more difficult than it needs to be, I wouldn't attend the B&F either. This sends a clear message to the club and supporters that he wants no further part of the club. Collingwood needs to do whats in their best interest and I think they should play hardball, but I don't see why Beams isn't allowed to do the same.

I understand what your saying but I think the no show sent a clear message that there is nothing to sort out. Unfortunately the pies may end up getting burnt here as I can't see them not releasing him on the grounds he has provided, no way would a club want to look that callous.

Where they might be able to salvage something, is dealing with Gold Coast instead contrary to his wishes as it really shouldn't make a difference which club you are at as long as your back in your home state

These decisions are very much short term ones and smack of either poor advice from player managers looking to cut a deal or just a selfish attitude of certain individuals. He will likely regret the decision as he gets older when he looks back on his career and the way he has left the club.

Ablett turned up at Geelong's best and fairest in 2010 a few days after announcing he would join the Suns. It would have been a bit tricky for him but he attended and I think that got the respect of fans to this day. Its possible if he snubbed it Geelong fans may think different of him.

Because Brisbane (may) want to trade him there, and (may) want Dayne Beams more than him, and he's a teenager who (most likely) doesn't have a no-trade clause in his contract. Shouldn't really be any more complicated that than.

Not sure why there's this unwritten "permission to be traded" rule in the AFL, and more importantly, why clubs so unquestioningly go along with it. Simply doesn't exist in other sports, unless there's specific language written into the player's contract, and only then does it get written into the contracts of the biggest stars. There's only so many spots on offer in the AFL, so the clubs hold the power, and they need to wake up and recognise it.

it's not an unwritten rule, it's a rule. Any trade must be agreed to by the player for it to happen. If you think Aish will agree to go to the pies, you're dreaming. If he was going to move it would be back to SA

Well then, it's a stupid rule, and I'm surprised the clubs allow it.

The club is trying to make him stay.

I'm sure if collingwood had come straight out and said "sure Dayne, whatever you have to do"

The noise is "we can keep him, make ways" though.

He has to make that prospect as awkward as possible, he has to fuel the tension.

It's not like American sports. The contract isn't being traded, the player is. The player must sign a new contract if they agree to be traded.

Grundy, Kennedy, Broomhead, Scharenberg. There are more of his South Aussie team-mates at Collingwood than Adelaide. Welcome to Collingwood Aishy (put pick 4 in your back pocket as well).

Just deplorable that he wants to go home n be with his terminally ill sick father. What is he thinking he should know ya footy mates should be the closest thing in his life. Not family. Unlike a bunch of footy nerds on here he obviously has a life outside of the weekend game.

Why not just go the B&F and say this?

Put yourself in his shoes for one moment it would be bloody awkward. You have seen Ed when he wants to get his own way on TV imagine what he's like out of the public eye, Bucks ripps at a jumper of a player on the sidelines because they aint doin what he wants n your asking to leave, past players badgering him about "back in my day we played for the jumper" & then a few other players getting a few in them. Look im not trying to bag the pies every club would have its strange characters that believe you cant leave until you've done your time. Imagine your going through a divorce n your invited to a party but the only problem is everyone at the party is associated with your ex n have taken her side. So in that situation would you go to the party? Id go n basically say you can all go n get fooked but a lot wouldn't. And to answer your question I would go to the B&F but not say why I wanted to leave because everyone already knows id just say thanx for all the good times but im moving on, ive done it leaving a fight gym n its f#$ken awkward a lot wont they just leave without saying why.

If you have a justifiable reason, i.e. your dad is very sick, it lessens the awkwardness a great deal. Just say that, and nobody would be able to pot you. You would leave on much better terms as well. E.g. Lumumba, Wellingham

I actually do agree to some extent with you but some people cant be put in that situation. As much as we think footy players are gods they are just normal human beings that are very good at playing a game of footy. Some would relish the opportunity n others just cant do it. Like ive said ive seen others in my chosen sport be the hardest n meanest blokes you would ever see but could not bring them selves to face up to it in person saying "im leaving". As much as we get a bunch of grasshoppers on here saying "ive got the inside word" the majority knows f$%kall about the inner workings of a club so we have no true idea of what has really has happened. Im not trying to defend Beams in any shape or form im just sayin that there is a number variables involved n we dont know them all. One thing I will say is I do sympathise with Pies supporters losing Beams but hey family before footy for me.
