Beams not attending Pies B&F

So, Beams should not be able to return home to his terminally ill father, because it would damage Collingwood's Premiership hopes seems to be what some Pies fans are saying? Pathetic.

That reeks of American sporting culture and I'd hate for that to happen to AFL.
Many Pies fans are saying that the PR hit from wanting what Beams is worth seems to fall entirely on Collingwood's shoulders. Brisbane have some responsibility not to try to exploit the situation and broker a fair deal.
If it goes to shit, I suspect it won't, why do Brisbane get off Scott free and not cop a hit in the PR stakes if they fail to come up with something better than pick 4 and blunt steak steak knives?

If Collingwood are playing hardball, why should he show any loyalty to the club? If I was in the same situation and it was made more difficult than it needs to be, I wouldn't attend the B&F either. This sends a clear message to the club and supporters that he wants no further part of the club. Collingwood needs to do whats in their best interest and I think they should play hardball, but I don't see why Beams isn't allowed to do the same.

Then he can sit a Season out of Footy then

1. You've been offered pick #4, which is more valuable than pick #5 or #6.
2. There is no evidence whatsoever that Aish wants to leave Brisbane; Beams' relationship with Collingwood, on the other hand, has broken down to the point that he didn't even attend the B&F, which would give the impression that no matter what, he will not play at Collingwood in 2015. I'll let you guess which situation devalues a player's currency at the trade table more.
3. There is apparently only one other team that Beams would accept a trade to.
4. If Collingwood does not accept a deal with Brisbane or Gold Coast, it would appear more likely that Beams would sit out the year and leave at the end of 2015, than that he would play another game for Collingwood.
5. If no deal happens, Beams sits out the season and walks at the end of 2015, Collingwood gets nothing for Beams.

Do you honestly believe players will sit out a year and not be paid?

When's the last time this happened? This isn't fantasy football.

The player is contracted, therefore his value is not decreased irrespective of what he wants to do.

lol it's laughable that people think he will "sit out a year".

Sitting out for a year doesn't work well for anyone. Beams after a year out may not be the Beams Brisbane thought they were getting. I don't think they'll mess with that scenario. They'll get the deal done but will have to pay up what Beams is worth.

No, I think it will be obvious to Collingwood that there is no way Beams can stay there now and that the Pies will ultimately accept a trade with Gold Coast or Brisbane (probably to Brisbane for #4 or a player like Aish - not both - and a significantly less tasty stocking stuffer than Aish to get the deal across the line).

Right now, it seems more unbelievable to me that he'd be at Collingwood in 2015. The horse has bolted. And, yes, his value is decreased, because if Collingwood wants to play hardball and hold him to his contract, it will have a miserable player in 2015 who will leave for nothing at the end of the year. Regardless of Beams' contract status, I would assume that there would be more pressure on Collingwood to get the deal done than there is on Brisbane. If I was running things at the Lions, I'd be quite content to just walk away with Aish and #4, if the Pies want to try digging the heels in.

That's fine.

History suggests players who aren't traded seem to end up signing long term deals only shortly after.

Lets just see how this plays out.

I'm quite confident it will be fine for Collingwood.

That's pretty much how it will turn out. Brisbane hold the cards here, lucky that they get to use Mr Beams's illness as a bargaining tool while Collingwood don't.

Beams is only worth pick 4.

Brisbane have every right not to budge.

Pies really have stuffed this up with their egos! Could be some fallout. Beams probably can't get out of there quick enough!
How do egos come into it? He's a valued player and a jet. Pick 4 is laughable and by the way, It'll pick 5 when the Dees get overs for Frawley.
After Martin's year, your lot would piss themselves laughing if the same deal was on the table for him.

Is Martin no-showing his current club's B&F, as a pretty clear indication that he just wants to get the hell out of there?

Its not laughable and Melbourne will not be getting pick 3 for Frawley despite the Campaigners best efforts!

Well if Beams and his manager want to make up stories about Dayne being interstate with his ill father and therefore unable to attend the Copeland Trophy... then posts a picture of himself on Twitter or whatever at the Harp Hotel in Kew with Heath Shaw at the time of the B & F it just shows how much he is willing to use his dad's illness...

And other Clubs supporters have been banging on about how Collingwood has no heart to Beams' situation and shouldn't be playing hardball at the trade table!

What's next Beams... on a human level you have made yourself look like a piece of shit. I mean who uses his dads illness as a bullshit excuse and then posts themselves on social media and busts himself?

What a freaken moron.

All your leverage just went out the window Beama.

Most people love Dayne and wish him well but after that piss pour effort last night he has lost a lot of respect

He and Brisbane have lost All of their leverage on the trade table now on compassionate grounds.

Who uses their old mans illness as an excuse to go out on the piss and the punt?

Bet his old man wasn't too pleased.
