1 is but I wouldn’t think he will play any games for them. People are free to choose whichever club they wish doesn’t have to be the closest. I could choose to play an hour away for Maryborough if I wanted. Clearly Strath must have been the most appealing option or actually reached out and spoke to the kids any club could have done that.
If you are going to call others out when you think they are wrong, best to make sure you have your own facts right. It’s not hard to look things up these days.

This is proper nuff material

1 played the first 4 or 5games in the pios.

Would have thought before you go on some tangent you would at least do some research - embarrassing to say the least

It really comes back to what clubs stand for.

To me trying to actively rip players out of clubs in your area when you know they have struggles is just poor form.

I know players make the decision but there’s a right and a wrong way for a club to handle it.

Strath don’t have a great record as an ethical club in this regard.

If this was all about the kids just wanting to play higher level footy than RDFL why wouldn’t they have gone to Sunbury Lions

1. Closer in distance
2. Ballarat league miles ahead of Bendigo
3. Cannons miles ahead of Pios
4. They were not sitting winless until 2 weeks ago
5. The league has stability
6. Do I need to keep going

Hearing Eaglehawk have re-appointed Matho with Clayton Holmes as a co coach.

Thought it might have been time for a change there.

With the extra hoops of salary cap and points to deal with. However it may highlight the struggle to find people willing to coach.
Hearing the same Truck- I reckon he has done alright this year considering there off season departures.

Also heard they have been in contact with a couple VAFA A graders who have expressed interest in playing country footy next year.

You would think if they could hold majority of this years list and add these 2-3 guys in, should put them back in contention

I’d love to know the record because from what I see at Strath is a lot of home grown talent so I’m not sure about them ripping players from other clubs. Views change if you can enlighten me to this unethical record perhaps I should change what I think of strath

There’s several examples of them recruiting senior and junior players from
Castlemaine and Maryborough and several cases of them unsuccessfully approaching others.

Players leave clubs but you can take a position of actively trying to hurt clubs you know are struggling in order to make yourself slightly better or you can take a position where you don’t contribute to the difficulties those clubs face.

Mr Know it all is back……..

I’m listening

I’ve been here the whole time.

I do not profess to know everything but the constant whinging and jealousy on here is to drive someone crazy.

Kids move for many many reasons. During my time involved at Strathfieldsaye I can honestly say that know junior player was actively recruited from another club within the competition. Quite the opposite actually.

I have a son in the under 16’s this year who will move to under 18’s next season who has been approached by 3 clubs already about next year.

Strath has been and still is a well run club that has had excellent coaches and support so if that is attractive to kids and their parents then great.

Maybe other clubs should have a look at what they have in place for their kids and parents

And looking at ladder positions, it’s safe to assume they haven’t randomly chosen the most appealing club if there looking at success this year?
Is win/loss the only measure of success in underage football?

One of Straths strengths has and will continue to be development of players. Maybe that appealed to these kids more than just winning or losing.

They aren’t at Strath because they promised to make them the next AFL superstar.

1 player from Castlemaine who wanted to play a higher level during Castlemaine’s struggles and is now back after a solid VFL run. I don’t know of any player Strath have taken from Maryborough. Agree to disagree but I don’t see the numbers of players Strath has taken from struggling clubs as anywhere close to what people say.

Strath even had to turn away juniors trying to come into the club from other clubs. I agree the jealousy and whinging does get stale.

I get the feeling you are young and maybe have a fairly recent knowledge of the league?

I’d be younger than the average age on here by the sounds. I must say I did miss one Maryborough player who played at strath, Matt Johnstone. So I’ll change my answer to 2 that I know of. I’m happy to get a better understanding of league history if you want to share

Yep Johnstone is another as is Wayne Schultz.

Did they need to poach the best players out of Castlemaine and Maryborough while they were struggling to win games? Probably not. Made stuff all difference to Strath but has a massive impact on those clubs.
Personally I wouldn’t do it and I’d be disappointed if my club did.
We all have different perspectives on how important winning is in the scheme of things though and I understand that. I was never all that comfortable with Milne playing either.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but they start with a minimum of 4 teams at 12’s, and reduce by a team each year level. With that amount of kids, if they ‘developed kids’ so well, why do they still actively chase kids from other clubs around the district for under 18’s football?

Schultz I don’t know so ok. I understand how impact for struggling clubs losing good players has more impact than where they end up but I still don’t think the numbers of poached players is a bad as it’s made out to be. Milne is interesting. Why didn’t you like that?

What has Milne got to do with it or why would you have a problem with him playing?

preference is to fill list with Strath kids which they do. If there are spots available other people are free to join. You realise Strath kids coming out of 16s get approached regularly from numerous clubs in district leagues to leave and go play there. Strath don’t cry about it as much as everyone else and keep developing kids. If 8-10 of the kids who are still eligible for 18s were still at Strath they would be top 4 not second or 3rd last. The 16s are going along nicely by the looks so maybe the stay at the bottom of the ladder will be short lived.
