Just interesting they went to Strath instead of Castlemaine or Sunbury Lions if it was just about testing themselves.

Just had a look at the names - All it would have taken one message from a Strath Official letting the parents know they think there son is a chance of playing AFL if they come to Strath and the parents would have had them on the first vline to Strath.

Smart Tatics by Strath -but again parents getting sucked in thinking there kids the next Harley Reid. Not one of them would be close to getting a game in Straths seniors in the next 4 years unless they have 20 walk out over Preseason
Depends where they go to school, who their mates with wouldn't it? Maybe if maines under 18 coach gave them a call and got them to training they'd be at maine.

How many kids have been drafted straight out of strath? 0, ridiculous statement

I don’t see sandhurst / square or strath filing a complaint. You don’t cut off the arm that feeds you

I understand the massive self interest factor at play but surely they would put that aside if we are talking about a potential scenario that could see the league down to 6 teams.

And from what I’m hearing there could well be one more club who announce a desire to move leagues yet.

I'd think if maryborough and gisborne go, all clubs outside the 5 will be assessing where they play. Unless bendigo footy provides something out of the box, south flat and maine can't compete with Eaglehawk, strath, square and slags, due to their junior setups and income streams.

Flat wanting to move is news to Flat. 😂

I don’t think they necessarily do want to move, sounds to me like it’s more of an ambit claim to broadcast their feelings.

I know they were seriously pissed off (and continue to be) with the push for Maiden Gully, very much rightly so in my opinion.

What’s the meeting agenda for Wednesday?

Maiden gully need to be in the bfl, I don't think sandhurst were that happy with strath coming in to start with either

Maiden gully need to be in the bfl,

Seems like robbing Peter to pay Paul to me, you’ve already got a struggling club out that way, why give them a harder job by adding competition?

How about giving White Hills the QEO as a co-tenant and seeing if they can evolve into a power club? Huge growth area that side of town with no side in the comp.

Could you imagine trying to be a co-tenant with sandhurst ! There’s a reason why south couldn’t wait to get out. You’d be training on Mondays but only if the 5 sandhurst feeder schools didn’t already have it booked !

Well white hills could be if they changed their name to incorporate Epsom as well, not sure they should move into the qeo though.

Maiden gully is where all the young families live, it's got the high school there to make it work. It's far easier to see maiden gully grow into a power club quickly than see flat rise up

Sandhurst will beat maiden gully by 500

Seems strange for someone demanding the league to be forward thinking to shit on an idea because of what would happen this year.

Or do you just like being negative?

There is an example on the other side of town from Maiden Gully.
It’s not about instant success. Put the structure in place and build on it.

Strath didn’t exist 20 years ago and now look

Enjoy the unrest it brings eaglehawk and flat and also enjoy the record beltings for the next 5 years

They don’t have to, but what it does do is limit the amount of choice, limit the competition for attracting players and just as importantly limits the spread of volunteers required to make clubs tick. It may not be a quick fix but over time having less clubs in that town would be a good thing.

Look at Kerang, look at Sea Lake, look at Ouyen United, look at Southern Mallee Thunder
Spot on Roota.
Way too many teams based around Maryborough.

Maryborough Natte Carisbrook Talbot Dunolly Giants and bit of Avoca are clubs drawing from it.
Population 7700

Stawell has itself and Navarre and a bit Great Western. Population 6300

Ararat has Itself Taty W/Bolac Eagles Moyston and a bit of Great Western. Population 11500

Castlemaine has itself Newstead Maldon C/Creek Harcourt a bit. Population 7500

Thoughts!

When you are barracking for the league to fall over you can’t accept any positive ideas.
Nobody needs to barrack for the league to fall over, it’s already fallen. And without insane incentives (that the big clubs would say no to anyway) to try and attract teams to come in and replace those that have gone/are going, it won’t recover. The damage is done.

Maybe to start with, zone schools to footy clubs in under-age footy. Maybe if you make pios and you don't have a home bfl club, you go into a draft. And when you don't play pios, you play bfl senior footy. Bottom clubs get the top picks and they play as 1 pointers. It's not about penalising top clubs as you make the league standard far worse, but it's trying to help these bottom mid range clubs.

Surely if your on the pios list as a bendigo based player, you're better off playing senior footy than under 18s. Maybe these clubs need to sell themselves better too, provide incentives for kids to play as well, not just expect kids to turn up and play and crack it when players go elsewhere for a kick with their mates. Your job as a club is to try make yourselves a junior destination club as well.

Cant see any club falling over themselves to join the BFL. This shitshow hasnt happened overnight, its been quite obvious to most that this was where it was headed. Any plan to revive the BFL cant be rushed and also needs to be done in consultation. Any future success of the BFL or whatever emerges from the ashes has to be agreed to by all. Dont know that the seemingly popular idea of a tiered system will work.

Tiered system will never work, community clubs wouldn't want too

With the emergence of older players being drafted do we need to give the Coates league the flick and put the emphasis on young blokes going through the school system which not only gives them a chance of being drafted but gaining a decent education at the same time. Realistically the amount of ex AFL players returning to their home clubs is minimal.
