Bendigo FL discussion 2025

It’s time for all clubs, in all leagues to make a stand against the AFL . We don’t need them, what have they done to assist clubs, lighten the burden of club volunteers and improve football in the region?
Other than put in place a salary cap they don’t enforce and a points system that hasn’t helped, except make it harder on clubs to improve and added work for volunteers
EFA

Surely Moama would be re-thinking the idea of going Bendigo after seeing how poorly treated South have been. Why in God’s name would they want to join the rabble. They’d be better of starting their own league.

The Echuca & District Football League, perhaps?

Moama, Echuca United, Mathoura, Leitchville-Gunbower, Cohuna, Lockington-Bamawn United, Macorna, Pyramid Hill and a couple more to give us 10 clubs.

Tongala maybe.
Rochy as a longshot.
Echuca as an extreme longshot.

No doubt we are seeing unprecedented times where clubs are seeking to change leagues to secure their futures. I can't remember a year when so many clubs have sought a transfer.

AFL Victoria need to get off their collective behinds and be proactive for once and provide a recommendation for competition structures in each region. Whether they are adopted or not, the peak body must at least do something other than watch on with apparent disinterest as grassroots football disintegrates.

Agree. I find it astonishing that in the last few years there are clubs all through Country Victoria ( and other states no doubt) wanting to change leagues, merge etc and it has all been club driven. No road map for change from the top when there is a clear desire from country clubs to secure their futures.

There's always a bit of talk of trying to get the Northern echuca league with a rochy tongla added

First call would be to South Bendigo

a lot to take in from this weeks posts and im not a country football person but that cant be right south Bendigo cops a -3.

feel sorry for you all as its evident your clubs have no input or power despite having to pay fees to have your league administered by people who do as they please.

Another ex AFL / VFL player to Castlemaine.
Huge recruit Josh Eyre, hope his there full time. Bit of make or break for Maine in the next 1-2 years. Hope like hell they make it as it will be fantastic for the league seeing a huge strong supporter base and strong country club out of Bendigo to go with gisborne. I’m on board the Maine train. Good luck

It’s brought some excitement into the league that’s for sure, they must play finals now surely?

Also would love to know who’s running the books there too? They’re a magician

I’m tipping Castlemaine to return to the bottom of the ladder. Going to be hard for them playing with 12 players every week to fit under points limit
The excitement of a resurgent Castlemaine being overshadowed by the Points and Cap fiasco tells us all that is wrong with country football. As for creative accounting we might need to cast our eyes to the abundance of clubs that are adopting cowboy accountants that breach current regulations at the detriment of the many clubs that don't 'fiddle' the books. Yet, the administrators stick their necks out once in a blue moon to 'whack' a club over the head as an example and then go back down their rabbit hole. Tents down circus over! I hope Castlemaine return as a power and I'm personally supportive of the way they have gone about it.

I agree completely mate. I'd rather see another competitive team making the league better than a team being hamstrung by points and stuck in the same cycle of results. I love what Castlemaine are doing right now if they aren't giving the biggest middle finger to AFLVIC then I'd love to see who is!
