For me, these are the locks for out best 22.

I'm pretty confident that Malthouse will go with a 3 tall forward line.

The only reason Walker and Everitt are on the bench is I didn't know where to put them on the field !! Both are very versatile, which is great!

It's interesting that nearly all punters are assuming that Walker will move forward again this year, when in fact (unless I have missed something) there has been no such talk from players, coaches or the club.

So, there are still 7 spots up for grabs, IMO these are the 12 most likely fill them.

S. White
K. Jaksch
D. Buckley
P. Cripps
S. Docherty
M. Whiley
T. Bell
N. Graham
Z. Touhy
A. Carrazzo
E. Curnow.
C. Sheehan

5 of these have to miss out on being in the 22, you choose !!

And that doesn't include a specialist forward, ie Ellard, Tutt or Smith as I just think the team is stronger without them.

I also haven't included any 1st year players. If Boekhurst or DVR start pressing for selection it adds even more depth !!

The rest of the squad includes; Warnock, Watson, Foster, Giles, Armfield, Holman, Dick, plus all the rookies.

As far as definite starters are concerned I'd have included Docherty and Curnow but taken Casboult out as a definite even though he's a likely starterer given the forward set-up we're wanting to establish.

Can't help but seeing a regular quality player in Docherty as he just does everything well, even when unfit........Can't wait 'til he's fit.

Yep agree.

If there's one that can fill those slots anywhere, reckon it's Tuohy, (who I wouldn't mind forward). He's got the hoof on him, but when he gets dragged back to the goal-line under a high footy gets a bit lost.

Like him all the same, and wouldn't mind seeing a bit more of Sheehan, either of those 2 by foot are sublime.

Too true, looking over it again I did notice that you missed the entire ruck line and I missed kruezer.

You should have called yourself TB4 and posted on the Essendon board for the lols.

My line up:

FB White, jamo, Buckley
HB Docherty Rowe Sheehan
C Everett Gibbs Simpson
R kruezer Murphy judd
HF yarran cas Thomas
FF Menzel Henderson jones

I curnow walker Carrazzo Boekhurst

Docherty is probably the next safest player.

MM hasn't always played a tagger, other wise Curnow is probably pretty safe too, although some will try to argue the tagging spot is a battle between him and Carrazzo.

To me Casboult is as safe as houses if he is fit. He is the perfect 2nd ruck/forward. Unless Kreuzer can show that he can play predominantly forward (and he hasn't done it yet), then IMO Casboult is safe.

What about kicking, spoiling and contested marking? Hard nosed and versatile are good traits to have but efficiency and consistency are pretty important Id rekon!

White is our best 3rd tall at the moment and toughness is an added bonus, it makes your team mates walk taller knowing they will have back up if they get singled out, for too long we have allowed the opposition to push us around. Every team needs some hardness and White gives us that and we could do with a bit more, Mitch added that around the ball but he was a different story and we have lost that hardness.

Carrazzo offers hardness around the ball and if he can find form his age should not keep him out, if the young boys want his spot they need to take it-it is not their given right, which is the way it should be, healthy competition for spots will make us a stronger team which is the direction MM is pushing us.

Hawthorn were the prime example last year- heaps of injuries, but unknown players to us, came in and filled their roles and performed quite well, this is what we want from our fringe players.

If you put it that way I agree with a lot of what you said... BUT being hard and being good are 2 different things, its just sad that he wont make most teams best 22 yet we need him and that was originally my point... Put it this way, I really really hope Jacksch takes ownership of that position... Everything else you said about carrots I actually fully agree with!

Going forward - would like to see this side played most weeks.

B: Michael Jamison Sam Rowe Dylan Buckley
HB: Sam Docherty Kristian Jaksch Andrew Walker
C: Blaine Boekhurst Bryce Gibbs Dale Thomas
HF: Marc Murphy (c) Lachie Henderson Chris Yarran
F: Troy Menzel Levi Casboult Liam Jones

RK: Matthew Kreuzer Chris Judd Ed Curnow
INT: Andrejs Everitt Kade Simpson Patrick Cripps Dillon Viojo-Rainbow

Because Jamison is old and we don't need old even if they're better than the alternative.

Jamison is playing most of the year as a 28 y.o.

McPharlin is Freos best back-man at 33 years of age.............Our guys are always older than others :) .............Let's call it 'Carlton' years

.............and Michael Johnson is 31, but Michael Jamison?

Let's work it out in Carlton years which must have something like a 15% loading........making Jamo.......almost 33. He's getting there. :)
Freo are in a bit of strife IMO. people howl us down but if you look at the freo KP's wow they are in strife (explains why they will probably throw the kitchen sink at Rance).

Okay had more of a think about the team and have a fee changes from my last post:
Key Position Defence: Jamieson and Rowe
3rd tall: Jacksch (need to get games into this bloke)
Small lock down defender: Buckley (love his toughness)
Running defenders: Simpson and Yarran (fast with great disposal)

1st Ruck: Kruezer by a long way
Midfielders: Murphy, Gibbs, Judd, Thomas, Cripps, Everitt, Graham, Curnow, Whiley, Boekhorst
I picked these 10 as our best midfield options is it good enough to go with the best?

Key Forwards: Henderson and either Watson or Jones (can they kick enough goals not sure)
3rd tall relief ruck: Casboult
Mid size forward: Walker and Menzel ( think Simmo and Yaz can cover backline so move Walker forward he has kicked over 50 goals in a season before and has great hands) (Menzel is a jet who can also go midfield)
Last forward spot goes to resting midfielder

Noticeable admissions: Carrazzo have loved this guy but feel Curnow may have passed him
Touhy: Though he struggled last season and no longer should command a certain start prefer Buckley
Bell: to be honest was a toss up with him and Whiley could easily swap these guys over
Docherty: Wanted him in the team but prefer Yarran and Simpson down back could he play midfield?

Curnow was our best mid last year til he broke his leg, Carrots if he finds form will be hard to keep out of our mids. Touhy had a poor year last year, whether he carried an injury or not I don't know but I hope so because he can turn that around. Bell still learning his trade at AFL level and needs game time if we are going to persist with him- have not seen Whiley enough to say who is better.
Doc was a shining light last year and can slot in anywhere. It's been a long time since we have had rising star nominations or young guys coming through where we look forward to their future development. (ie Bucks, Doc, < menzel

Doc and Everitt are musts. Always surprised when they get left out.

Everitt was one of, if not the most, reliable player last season.

Plus, look at Curnows best and fairest votes til he broke his leg, whatever his job was for the team, obviously the players thought he nailed it.

if Walker misses Rd1:

FB: Tuohy Jamison Simpson
HB: Docherty Rowe Yarran
C: Murphy (C) Gibbs Thomas
HF: Cripps Henderson Menzel
F: L. Jones Casboult Smith/Tutt/Ellard/Buckley*

R: Kreuzer Carazzo Judd

INT: White, Boekhorst, Everitt (Curnow)

*Turning one of these four into a snarling heatseeking-missile would help us a lot.

Edit: Forgot Yaz! Sorry Ciaran.

Serious question, does Jones really come straight into the team? Especially if the kreuz goes fwd..
