re jack-the-ninja -
rosas got a lot of experience,he's quick, and can bomb a long goal, doesnt shirk a contest..re blazing away, who doesnt these days-the pace and pressure! anyway be interesting to see how he lines up in new team, and how he plays under Simmo, and other new coaches, and tactics..

i think shepards also worth sticking with another season-he adds pace and cool head..needs to weight up..see how he looks after another preseason..and then for much the same reasons as above--under new coaches and tactics.

the rest are depth players, and will be sorted out by their performances and the pecking order...Newman i dont know much about but seems highly favoured, and has a way to go..butler has been pretty reliable down back-the godawful 2013 season aside(i just realised the number 13!! clutching at straws-pin failure on anything?),and he'll be sorted out by our list also, can see him phasing out,if injuries continue like Waters i feel...Mcginnity i like strangely enough-he's a junkyard dog,and plays well in bursts, kicking the odd goal-he just gives it his all,and doesnt mind a scrap..smith,well,we're getting more and more runners, and backline runners,so he'd need to smarten up..but i might agree with you here, his frustrating performances may just be due to a lack of firepower in the cerebral dept.

got a feeling we might need to revaluate some players under the team reconstruction..some might improve, play differently, play different roles etc...no doubt we'll have new spuds to kick around, and others will slip away.but its the potential gold i cant wait to see stand out.

i also reckon we need one more class midfielder (never have enough really?)
Bravo Art old son, its refreshing to hear some new opinions in this love fest here...oh I mean forum. I also had hope for Sheppard and McGinnity, Brennan, Morton, JON, Bennell and all the other spuds but reality is a cold hard bitch....we've become the Dockers.

lol.

Bennell hasn't worn a jumper for us yet, JON was a rookie pick. Brennan's only been with us for two seasons and Morton may well be delisted yet.

Seriously, we were terrible this year, and this is the best argument you can put forward?

Are you kidding, all of these players had a major impact on our on-field performances this year!

I'd love to see our round 1 team look something like this.

Will Schofield Darren Glass Beau Waters

Shannon Hurn Eric Mckenzie Elliot Yeo

Matthew Rosa Matthew Priddis Andrew Gaff

Chirs Masten Josh Kennedy Sharrod Wellingham

Mark Lecras Dean Cox Jack Darling

Nic Naitanui, Luke Shuey, Scott Selwood

Bench: Xavier Ellis, Brad Sheppard, Jamie Cripps, Pick 11/Mark Hutchings

I'm hoping shep, cripps and hutchings can all have really big pre seasons and force their way into our 22.

Are you kidding me? His opinion was very similar to everyone else's here.

And please change that av. The Jack Darling hate metre is climbing.

Let me guess Lmach, you're about 5 foot 2 and suffer from "Tellin everyone what to Do"! syndrome ?

I know this topic won't be too popular with the fanboi's but here goes...

Players I think who will be not playing much in 2014

1. Rosa Non Damaging, Blazes away
2. Sheppard Just not up to AFL standard
3. Brennan Son of a Favourite but not up to AFL standard
4. Dalziell Not up to it
5. Butler good smart footballer but too injury prone
6. Smith quick but stupid
7. McGinnity fast but vanilla and dumb footballer
8. Morton say no more
9. Bennel see above
10. Newman and we bypassed Yeo for this spud really ?

  • Completely disagree on Rosa. I think after tallying up our wins and losses in 2012, Rosa being in the team correlated very highly with us winning. I think he's a pretty important link-up player for us and has more balls than most, as proved late last year.
  • Premature call on Sheppard - yes a little lightweight but he's started to show he can have an impact. I do feel though that he doesn't fill a strong need for us at the moment.
  • Disagree on Brennan, his skills need work but I think he's Waters Mk 2. Waters has had a poor 2013, but he was AA last year and I think Brennan could get there too oneday, he has the drive and that's the hardest thing to teach.
  • Yes, based on 2013 form Dalziell shouldn't play unless there are injuries, most people would agree with that
  • Butler - I'd wait to see if he's managed differently under the new coach.
  • Smith - not stupid, not even sure how you can assert that. I'm definitely not a big fan of him on current form but I agree with many on here that he could be doing much better if he applied himself. I wonder if he would be better played elsewhere.
  • McGinnity - completely disagree (even on the fast part). I think in a team with more space on the forward line, he'd make a good defensive forward. He was one of our best finals players in 2012 after just a few games and I think that carries more weight than H&A performance.
  • Morton - was always a gamble, but I don't think he's played enough games in Eagles colors to pass judgment yet. I'd like to see him get a few more chances this year.
  • Bennel - have you even seen him play?
  • Newman - I get that you aren't a fan of him, but he's clearly not a spud.
There, I answered fairly calmly and passionately, now can you please change your avatar?

Glass Mackenzie Waters
Hurn Schofield Rosa
Yeo Scooter Gaff
Hill Kennedy Masten
LeCras Darling Cox
NicNat Shuey Wellingham

Int from: Priddis, Ellis, Shep, Cripps, Butler, Carter, Pick 11

Rosa, Ellis and Yeo to rotate through wing and halfback. I think Rosa could be reinvented into a half back given how well he played as that seventh back/defensive running wingman back in 2011/2012. We definitely need to address our midfield and midfield depth in this draft.

B - Glass, McKenzie, Waters
HB - Yeo, Brown, Hurn
C - Ellis, Selwood, Gaff
HF - Wellingham, Darling, LeCras
F - Hutchings, Kennedy, Cox
R - Naitanui, Shuey, Masten
I - Rosa, Priddis, Acres, Schofield

Strong best 22 minus a quality small crumbimhg forward but we need a good run with injuries

I'd love to see our round 1 team look something like this.

Will Schofield Darren Glass Beau Waters

Shannon Hurn Eric Mckenzie Elliot Yeo

Matthew Rosa Matthew Priddis Andrew Gaff

Chirs Masten Josh Kennedy Sharrod Wellingham

Bench: Xavier Ellis, Brad Sheppard, Jamie Cripps, Pick 11/Mark Hutchings

I'm hoping shep, cripps and hutchings can all have really big pre seasons and force their way into our 22.
Spot on team . No hill but I like it ! Wouldn't drop lecca wellers or masten to fit him in the fwd line

I'm sorry to sound like a fanboi, but 9.5/10 of your points are straight crapola.
Just do a bit of homework before your next post. I don't know everything, and I'm guilty of making many dumb posts in this forum, but it doesn't take a genius to know that we drafted Newman for a reason - nor does it take one to understand how important Rosa is to our team. I'd give my opinion on each of the points, but it has been done pretty well above.

Thanks for including first names, it's a nice touch

Yeah, i thought about hill, but i'm hopping the likes of cripps ect can improve enough to force him out of the 22, because i'm not quite sold on him yet and i think the others add some more flexibility to the team :)

Ruck: Natanui Selwood Shuey
Int: Hill Acres Glass Sub: Ellis

Adam Simpson saying that Players need to be adaptable to play two roles in the team , Darling he has hinted could be tried as a midfielder or on the ball . Hurn to be tried on the wing and Xavier Ellis will most likely play half back .

Hurn is too easily tagged at half back these days, despite the fact that he is superbly skilled at setting up attacks and at being a loose man.
Move him to wing or even mid / forward if we have to. He is good overhead and can kick goals. If we have enough half back options with Ellis and Yeo we should experiment a little.

No lock down small/ medium defenders. Would be a shame to have Yeo in that role.
Can Waters become that lock down ground level player, or is he destined to throw his body at marking contests?
