It hard to see a spot for Francis next year other than depth, he’s not a forward and Jones needs to be playing ahead of him anyway, If Hurley get himself right then he’d be ahead also.
He couldn’t crack it into the defence at the end of this year and we have Reid waiting in the wings as well as BZT as depth, do we need him?

Maybe he is depth?

You'd say he was depth this year... played defence when Stewart wasn't available, and played forward when Hooker and Jones were out.

He played 15 games, so definitely played a role.

Left Field?

McGrath back, Reid in for Stewart, Guelfi in for Smith up Forward. Cox to play as a third tall target with stints on the wing.

Francis to play more lockdown allowing Ridley more freedom. Shiel to play outside.

B Francis Laverde Hind
HB Ridley Reid McGrath
C Langford Merrett Shiel
HF Stringer Jones Cox
F Tipungwutti Wright Guelfi
FOLL: Draper Caldwell Parish
INTER: Heppell, Redman, Snelling, Perkins

He looked cooked last year, what makes you think a year out is going to help?

I’ve loved Hurley since his first game but he’d have to turn the clock back 3 years.

Different story if he’s playing permanently forward.

My best 22:

FB:Ridley - Laverde - Cutler
HB: Hind - Stewart - Redman
C: McGrath - Parish - Cox
R: Draper - Merrett - Shiel
HF: Stringer - Jones - Francis
FF: Tippa - Wright - Snelling
IC: Heppell - Langford - Perkins - Caldwell

Hopefully Reid pushed Cutler out over the preseason and Ridley then slides down and plays small.

Francis holding his spot in the forward line probably my only contentious decision. Can see the argument to have Langford and Stringer as 3rd/4th talls then bring in a Smith type so we are better defensively.

Crazy how much our 22 has improved that the fringe spots up for grabs are being competed for by guys as talented as Smith and Francis are fighting it out for the last spot.

Don’t agree that Francis isn’t a forward and happy to persist with him in that role. Started the elim final well while it was dry. Do worry about his confidence though given it’s hard to be a consistent forward.

Really think Durham could/will explode with a full AFL preseason and of professionalism under his belt - has so many great traits. Astute pickup.

Very happy if he and Langford take the wings and Cox can be used in a taller type hff role that provides a marking target up and down the ground from hf to wing

B: Francis, Laverde, Redman
HB: Hind, Ridley, Heppell
C: Langford, Merrett (c), Perkins
HF: Snelling, Wright, Cox
F: McDonald-Tipungwuti, Jones, Smith
R: Draper, Stringer, Parish
Int: McGrath, Durham, Caldwell, Baldwin
Sub: Hurley

Giving Hurley a chance to play once more. Giving Baldwin a shot too. Be interesting to see how he goes.

FB: Kelly - Reid - Laverde
HB: Hind - Ridley - Heppell
C: McGrath - Merrett - Shiel
R: Draper - Parish - Caldwell
HF: Perkins - Jones - Stringer
FF: AMT - Wright - Smith
Int: Francis - Langford - Cox - Snelling

Didn't get a gig: Guelfi, Redman, Durham, Waterman, Ham, BZT, Stewart, Cutler, Bryan

We've got an excess of players that can play as part of our back 6-8 players. If we need trade currency, can probably find some there.

Depth is starting to look very promising.

Would love another tall forward and tall defender.

*EDIT* - it was pointed out I named McGrath twice.

I don't think there's a spot for Francis in the backline with Laverde, Steward, Ridley. Then there's Reid who might need a spot if he shows a bit.
Wright, Jones, Stringer are the tall forwards. None really screams No. 1 key forward but can still kick a winning score. Expecting Jones to come on a bit.
I'm expecting bigger and better from Perkins and Cox.
Durham and Guelfi utility. Caldwell midfield rotations, Langford forward.
Reckon U guys need another small forward to cover Tippa if he misses any games next year, now that U missed out on Rosa it may be worth inviting a couple down to train in the pre season from the state leagues and choose the best one in SPP period like you did with Waterman

Your spot on, first area of need this off season but probably prefer a more mature type who's ready to go over a 17/18 year old with the Davey twins the following year

You've got McGrath twice (wing and Int)
Replace the 2nd McGrath with Francis on the bench, Jake Kelly back pocket, replace Reid with Stewart (at least to begin the season) and i'd say that is our best 22 (at this stage)

FB: Kelly Stewart Laverde
B: Heppel Ridley Hind
C: Redman Merrett Langford
HF: Perkins Jones Stringer
FF: AMT Wright Snelling
R: Draper Parish Shiel
Interchange: Caldwell, (sub) Cox, McGrath, Francis

Depth: Reid, Durham, guelfi, Smith, Byran, Hurley, Cutler, pick 11.

Surprised how many teams had Smith. Smith played maybe 2 good games in two years.

Also think Kelly is a lock we got killed by small fwds last year.

Also not sure of best position but Redman has to be in there somewhere bases last year's form. Has bit of mongrel, momentum changer we need.

Also think Cutler showed a lot of promise last 10 games.

Gaps - tall, skillful winger.
- quick small forward
- Tall and small forward the biggest gaps
- still quite a few holes as don't trust Stewart or Francis and forward line of Jones/Wright/aging Amt isn't potent enough yet.

I think this is probably pretty close at this stage of the year. Probably the only thing that underwhelms me is naming all of Tippa, Smith and Snelling as small forwards who are all pretty useless in marking contests which could get us exposed against the better defenses and only Tippa of the 3 is an excellent crumber. Realistically its not so bad since Snelling will play through the midfield a fair bit and Perkins will probably play up forward who is a pretty good mark.

We also might be a bit short up forward given Wright will relieve in the ruck. That leaves Jones as the biggest target during that time - which might be a tall order for a 3rd year player. We'll see what the trade period brings.

Stewart is 100% in the side next year. If we get another tall KPD then they'll both play and Ridley, Laverde and Francis can get back to 3rd talls.

B: Laverde Reid Ridley
HB: Hind Stewart McGrath
C: Cox Caldwell Heppell
HF: Francis Jones Stringer
F: Walla Wright Snelling
Foll: Draper Parish Merrett

I/C: Perkins Langford Redman Shiel

I want a balance backline. 2 quick smalls,2 tall KPDs and 2 intercepters.

Happy to swap Stewart and Francis if the opposition goes in with medium sized forward line.

Back. Redman. Stewart. Laverde
Half Back. Ridley. Reid. Hind
Wing. Durham. Parish. Cox
Half Forward. Langford Jones Mcgrath
Forward. Tippa Wright Perkins
Ruck. Draper. Stringer. Merrett
Inter. Heppell. Shiel. Caldwell Bryan
