FB: Nick Valstuin - Noah Balta - Nathan Broad
HB: Tom Brown - Josh Gibcus - Daniel Rioli
C: Jayden Short - Shai Bolton - Sam Banks
HF: Liam Baker - Jacob Koschitzke - Noah Cumberland
FF: Dustin Martin - Tom Lynch - Judson Clarke
FOLL: Toby Nankervis - Tim Taranto - Jacob Hopper
INT: Samson Ryan - Jack Ross - Marlion Pickett - Dion Prestia

EMG: Tyler Sonsie, Tubby Graham, James Trezise, David Coulthard.

I'm looking forward to Yze playing the kids and the end of the premiership boys club. I'd trade Soldo while he has currency as well as Graham and McIntosh for whatever is offered. Time to move past stop gaps like Mansell also and Grimes should be insurance for injuries and to help out in Magoo's. I don't mind Kozitschke as a mature body to make Bauer and Ryan earn games and can be thrown down back too.

Our success next year will pretty much be relative to how Tom Lynch goes. Yze has already said he wants to be an attacking scoring side so doubtful he'll be hiding 3 or 4 non forwards up there like we've become accustomed to. Was a brilliant move letting Xavier go for coaching role cos now he can go elsewhere like Mini and the fresh wind will blow out the cobwebs and complacency.

How can people not have Cumberland in their wanted best 22

I’m certain Adem Yze will get the best out of him considering he himself was a very successful dominate footer of the left variety
Because he was absolutely dreadful at AFL level this season.

Would have to have a ridiculously impressive preseason to win back fan confidence.

Not saying he can't but just want to see it first.

FB - Vlastuin - Grimes - Broad

HB- D. Rioli - Balta - Young

C - Short - Baker - Ralphsmith

HF - Clarke - Jacob Koschitzke - Martin

FF - MRJ. - Lynch - Bolton

Following - Nank - Tarranto - Hopper

Bench. - Brown. - Banks. - Prestia, Sonsie

Emergency - Either Cumberland or Coulthard

Backline - Really impressed with Young. Will always be a limited player, but what he does(stoppage defender) he does really well. Daniel Rioli has played his best footy as that skilful, hard running with pace defender. Leave him there.

Gibcus obviously have high hopes for. But needs a good spell in the VFL to get going.

Would have one of the younger guys from the bench rotating through to get more run.

Midfield- Really rate Ralphsmith. Thought his run and carry was really good for a young guy. Should be our future winger. Same with Short. Really like the idea of him running and kicking into our forward line.

Prestia needs to play off the bench as a centre. Still great at extracting from stoppages and finding easy targets by foot or hands, lacks the pace, but covered by the extra pace added by our wingers.

Forwards - Got the two big guys for structure. Martin will obviously rotate to a few different spots throughout the game, but think his best footy this year has been a high forward that delivers into the forward line. Giving him space to get the ball between 50m to 70 m out and turning around to hit a target was when he looked the best.

Having MRJ, Bolton and Clarke down there will hopefully have us back that forward pressure.

Never been a fan of Bolton in the midfield. Yes, he has some great clearance highlights, but has about 10 times more complete no defensive pressure moments.

Leave him and Lynch to play as the deep forwards.

Having Short, Baker, Martin (I would argue our best kicks, with exception of D Rioli who is in the backline) playing that midfield/high forward role, we will hopefully improve the most important kick in footy, delivery into forward 50. Especially with the stand rule.

I also really rate Cumberland ( does he need to improve off field or training... or did Dimma just not like him? I have no idea) but I rated his efforts and skill. I also rate what Collibgwood have done by making the substitute a specialist position. Not just giving it to some random each week. Or giving it to Josh ****ing Shache and not playing him. Maybe Cumberland could be that player.

Also, I'm a big believer that Rucks are over rated. Unless you have a top tap ruckman, I'm talking top 1 or 2 in the league, the rest are basically the same. Have one of the talls in the forward line to do stoppages in the forward 50 so nank doesn't need to cover the whole ground and Balta or
Jacob Koschitzke can take a few centre bounces when Nank needs a spell.

VFL, really want to see Caleb Smith, Ryan, Gibcus and any of the under 25 year olds step up.

TLTR. We should be 1.80 favourites to win it next year.

That's your opinion and you are intittled to it of course, but I saw a very young guy with pace that took the game on. Much more than a lot of the more talked about under 21 year old players in the league.

Did he turn the ball over too much ? Sure. But knowing when to pull the trigger and when to play % will come with experience.

If Young is in our best z22, we aren’t competing for finals

I’m of the same opinion.
Yes he had some great moments.
But far too often I saw a bloke absolute butcher the football, take the wrong option or just get blatantly out positioned on the lead.
Good stop gap, but definitely look to build our team around balta, gibcus and look to recruit someone to take the power forwards.

Nice fun experiment. Be fascinating to see who impressed Yze come pre-season

What I’d like to see. Might be a bit young and doubt we leave Grimes out to start the season. I just really liked what I saw from Tresize in that last game and reckon we need to get games into these kids as soon as we can.

Again though you’d think a clean slate with a new coach coming in and it’s now or never for Cumbo. He’s got the talent just has to earn it.

Baker - Balta - Broad
D.Rioli - Young - Vlastuin
Banks - Prestia - Short
Bolton - Lynch - Martin
Cumberland - Kosi - Coultard
Nankervis - Taranto - Hopper
Tresize - Ross - Gibcus - Graham
Sub: Clarke

Leaves Ryan, Pickett, McIntosh, Dow, Grimes, Mansell, Miller, Brown, Rioli Jr and Sonsie

Trezise should be playing round 1. A lot to like about him.
Brown with a good preseason will also be pushing.
Cumbo in the forward line.
Could be exciting to see what might happen with the new faces, new coach and gameplan.
Would like to see both Trezise and Brown in the side.

Prestia - Graham - Brown - Soldo

This could be an option for getting Trezise & Brown into the B22, looks like a pretty solid team too.

Combo would want to have an epic preseason to push for selection. Showed glimpses but he was nowhere near it when he had opportunities to perform

A solid lock down defender and top 5 in the AFL for one-on-one wins. He'd work well with Gibcus and Balta who can be more attacking.

I've left him out of my team earlier because I don't think we need all 4 of Balta, Gibcus, Young and Broad playing unless we're facing a team like the Dogs who have 3 genuine key fwds as well as English and Bontempelli.

Balta, Gibcus and Broad will be enough as our key position players for most other teams, imo.

Think epic is over the top. He actually wasn’t as bad as some are making out. Miles ahead of MRJ

both were not up to it. Cumbo been in the system longer so I'd expect him to be producing better numbers than MRJ. Cumbo is not some Chris Knights/Caddy Type that could kick you 40-60 goals in a year. I'm not sure what people are expecting from him. Miles off it.

Balta and Broad can play on any size though. And itd be pretty bloody handy if you can free up Balta to play loose and intercept.

It's no different to when we used to play rance, astbury, Grimes and broad together. That was the best our defence has ever looked. It's effectively swapping balta for rance, Gibcus for grimes and young for astbury.

But I hardly recall Grimes ever playing on an opposition key fwd despite Grimes being the size he was.

We always setup with Astbury on the opposition's best key fwd, and Rance on the opposition's second key fwd. Astbury kept the best key fwd quiet, and Rance would lead the second best key fwd to the ball like an owner with their dog. I don't think we ever played Rance on the opposition best key fwd, like a Hawkins, and I don't think we do the same with Balta. I mean, we even had Garthwaite start and play on Hawkins in a match rather than going with Rance. We even had Vlastuin play on opposition key fwds for about a season or a season and a half.

In you comparison there, Broad would be the one taking over Grimes' role, Balta for Rance and Gibcus for Astbury (I think Gibcus has the ability to both lockdown and intercept at the same time, a bit like what Sam De Koning was lauded for in his breakout season for Geelong in 2022).

However you want to structure it, doesn't really matter. All those current guys are versatile bar Young, all the dynasty guys were versatile bar Astbury.

Something was off with him this year.
New coach next year and I’m expecting big things.
