There has been a lot of goodpicks for the Swans over the years, with big name stars left right and center that have flocked to us.

The likes of Tony Lockett, Paul Roos, Stuart Maxfield, Shane Mumford, Barry Hall, Ben McGlynn, Rhyce Shaw and Josh Kennedy. There also has been some we have crucially missed like Wayne Carey, James Hird and Scott Lucas. And now recently ones we have gladly missed in Brendan Fevola, Jason Akermanis and Ben Cousins.

But what is the BEST recruit? The BIGGEST miss and the BEST handball we have done?

Mine.

Best Recruit: Tony Lockett
Biggest Miss: Wayne Carey - Imagine that FWD line.
Best Handball: Brendon Fevola

Agree on the first two but how is Fevola a handball? The club never even considered him.

I think the 3rd category should be reserved for players we traded to other clubs/delisted or sacked.

when were we after carey? was it when he got turfed from norf?

We could have drafted him. And John Longmire as well but we passed on both of them. They were under the NSW area zoning or something.

Carey, Hird and Lucas are all NSW boys and if we wanted to could of been drafted by the Swans as I believe we had control of the NSW region of that time as were still new to Sydney.

didnt know that, they would have been some handy dudes to have around the club. but not to worry, you can look at every draft and pick out players we passed over. no point crying over spilt milk as they say

Best - Lockett/Goodes
Worst - Carey/Hird (passed on both as zone selections)
Bullet dodged - Cant think of one of the top of my head, maybe Carey when he left North??

We had 3 picks in the draft before Hayes, we selected Fitzgerald, Fosdike and Bolton. 2 of them played in a premiership and had Fitzy been durable enough he would have been a super forward. Would be nice to still have Hayes running around for us though as I love him (no homo)

I'm not sure where you thought Sydney bypassed Scott Lucas he was drafted from Camperdown via Geelong Falcons.
Hird was eligible but if you knew his history of injury it was a massive punt on him that came off for Essendon.
Carey and Longmire were both NSW players and therefore Sydney's in the day of the U19s. I think it was the Edelsten regime that sold them both to North for $15000.

If you don't mind a Pies perspective on your list I'll have a crack.

Best recruit: Brett Kirk- He took your whole football club to another level.
Worst- Longmire & Carey
Best handball- Rodney Eade

The best decision the club ever made was not a draft pick or trade, it was the move to Sydney. Although I hated at first and all the shit that went on with Edelston, private ownership and Carltank and Norf trying to kill us off. I would say ever since 1996 I would say this has to be the clubs most successful period, so all that pain of the sixties to the ninties is now worth it. To see that the club and the "BLOODS" spirit in full flow, all the old South Melbourne supporters would be smiling down from heaven shaking the thunder down.

Best Recruit: B.Hall (at least since I've been an actual fan in 2004)
Worst: Picking Jude Bolton over Mark McVeigh. I know Jude Bolton is equally good as a player, but under the current structure of the club, all NSWelshmen should have preference, and Mark Mcveigh is an awesome player.

Again, in terms of player v player though, they are equal.

Handball: Terry Wallace. :D

You have to be joking right? Mark McVeigh of Jude?

Didn't we pass up Lenny Hayes (also a NSWelshman) for Jude? I'd have thought that was a bigger blunder.

Underlined, italics and bold.

WOW. Good lord what is going on here? Tell me this is a joke post. Please.

You're saying you would prefer to have Mark McVeigh over Jude Bolton.

Both of these players were highly regarded by the swans but were taken from us by the Kangaroos. Our recruiter who found these players in the first place became the coach or assistant at the kangaroos and talked them into leaving Sydney meaning we would loose them for nothing if we didnt trade them.

This is what i remember reading about a year ago simply put we had no choice much like Anthony Rocca

If you're serious, you just blew ANY credibility you might have hoped you had ... Jude Bolton's under-12 training shorts still hold more talent than anything Mark McVeigh has ever done.

You did just win my personal award for least intelligent statement I've read on the Swans BF board.

Best Recruit: That Laurie Nash from Parrattah in Tassie went ok -

our time it's Stuart Maxfield, has done so much for the club even through family drama and his playing days are over, the work he does with the youngn's he's a great clubman no matter what tigers fans say.

Worst Miss: Carey and .... Nope Just Carey

Best Handball: Mark Powell.... walked straight out on North Melbourne after being traded and retired from AFL.
