Best decisions Swans have made

That's merely a 2009 list from the Wikipedia on "AFL in NSW" that I dug up earlier this year. I didn't comprise that list myself. You appear to be fairly informed, so I'll take your word for it.

* (All Australians)

FOWARD
BEVAN---MOONEY *---HAWKINS
SCHNEIDER---KOSCHITZKE---MCGLYNN

MIDFIELD
NAITANUI---JACK---KIRK * (c)
CROSS---J.MCVEIGH---HAYES *

BACK
M.MCVEIGH---GILBERT---STAKER
HOULIHAN---LRT----ADDISON

Okay so clearly the backline is shithouse (lol) but I dont think that's a horrid team. It'd be capable of beating the competition's bottom 4.

The DreamTeam from 2008 would struggle to beat the cats. The point is that every year, 1 or 2 good NSWelshmen (like a Hayes or Mooney) gets picked up by a Victorian club. It must be stopped. :p

The best decision the club ever made was not a draft pick or trade, it was the move to Sydney. Although I hated at first and all the shit that went on with Edelston, private ownership and Carltank and Norf trying to kill us off. I would say ever since 1996 I would say this has to be the clubs most successful period, so all that pain of the sixties to the ninties is now worth it. To see that the club and the "BLOODS" spirit in full flow, all the old South Melbourne supporters would be smiling down from heaven shaking the thunder down.

thats your opinion mate, worst decision ever I reckon we should be still in South Melbourne were we belong.. My Dad wont be shaking down thunder from heaven, he will be spitting... Posts like this and ones saying you want an all NSW Swans team kinda stings a bit even if you didnt mean it, wheres your 'Bloods' spirit? It can turn alot of South Melbourne Swans against Sydney based Swans, just sayin...

Not going into topic too much. But as a side topic. Who has been responsible for the teams
current standing in the AFL! In my opinion,3 people stand out.
1. Ron Barassi, dragged us out of 80s mire and put belief in club and players.
2. Signing of Tony Lockett. Biggest marketing tool for the game in Sydney, and it paid off!
3. Paul Roos. Champion Player, champion coach, appointed by fan support!
You tell me the last time a coach was appointed by support from fans.

I'm greatful for the huge support in Sydney. It makes me feel less guilty for not going to the game this weekend.

But the reality is that the players live, train and play the majority of their games in Sydney. I don't want another Jolly who gets homesick and leaves us. O'Keefe almost did the same.

The Bloodstained Angel himself, Brett Kirk, is a NSWmen. He defines bloods. It's been Roos' movement to recruit NSWmen like Playfair and McGlynn.

We get treated like an interstate team by the rest of the AFL. Might as well be one.

yeah youre right, those poor players getting paid millions to live interstate for a few years of their lives, must be hard for them. Maybe GWS would suit your vision better.

Skilton also defines the Bloods..

BigBez I dont know how you see the move to Sydney a mistake?
If we stayed in South Melbourne we would of died, we would of been Fitzroy...
The move to NSW paid of because we dont need to fight for fan support no more.
And have our own Stadium and a seconded larger fan base to attract.
Best move we could of made, I didnt see any of them complain when we won the Grand Final. We wouldnt of if we were still in South Melbourne.

Yeah, I think you've got it right there. Props to Richard Colless as well for making it all happen.

I'm detecting a massive irony in your post, and it confuses me as its comprised of like 30 words. You're obviously a true-blue Vic, and yet you mock Victorian players like Darren Jolly and Ryan O'Keefe who have either left the club to seek their Victorian homes, or have sought to. Then you seemingly imply that I symphasise with these players? Or something like that. If that's not it, I've got no clue what you're trying to imply..

Lool. I've been enlightened today. I didn't know there was this harbouring resentment from the Victorian-Swans fans towards those of Sydney. You learn something everyday. Then again, Melbourne's little brother complex has existed for over a century.

No need to make out that this is anything other than an issue between yourself and Bez.

You'll find this board is pretty much 50/50 Sydney/Melbourne fans and we have a healthy respect for each other and get along just fine for the most part thanks.

I'm surprised by the infighting over the move to Sydney. Our club is especially proud of our dual history and despite being a Sydneysider who for the most part can't stand Melbournians and their deep-seeded inferiority complex :)D), I'm also happy we have traditional Victorian roots that are an important facet of our current identity.

Always remember: 'Two cities, one team, together living a dream' ;):)

Totally agree, if we had of stayed at South, we would be like Fitzroy merging (taken over) or worst still like Norf wandering around everywhere not belonging or dead buried and forgotten.
At least moving to Sydney, we still have a club, our colours, our history and all of is is honoured no matter where you live, your ties to the club, we are all part of the Blood spirit.
My father who died in 2008, died a happy man cause the club he had followed for over seventy years had finally had a premiership, he was buried with all his bloods gear, he was true Bloods supporter.

Add to that:

Ron Barrassi was the man that convinced Roos not to retire and come to Sydney. He was also the reason Lockett signed with us. Tony wanted to experience beign coached by a legend of the game. Same for Kickett too.

Coming off 2 years of disaster, Ron's brief stay was incredibly important. :thumbsu:

ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D:thumbsu:

The secret is two been there and dunnits (Barrasssi and Eade) followed by a loyal Fitzroy super duper star!!! Who knows it is not who 'WE' pick it is how they develop and perform....on the day!

Paul Roos take a bow!:)

Best recruit: Mark Bayes ......by a country MILE! (in my lifetime)

Worst miss: Who cares?

Best handball: The latest and greatest Jesse White last week!

Please correct me if Im mistaken, but didnt Jesse sign his 3yr deal specifically to keep out of GC17's recruiting list. I remember that was the story at the time.

Best recruitment ever: Paul Roos

Reason: Most important recruit ever in the Swan's history. If it wasn't for this, many of the players in the OP's list wouldn't be here. Also gave us a premiership and is leading the charge this year.

Turned the list around when he took over as coach and is leaving it in great condition for the future.

Also staying on with a pivotal role at the Swan's Academy.

Forever immortalised in bronze outside the SCG

NONE of this would have happened if he wasn't recruited by the Swans...

You do realise their isnt the best AFL upbringing in NSW at the moment.
The strength isnt there, and our BEST players are all Victorian. We would of never won the 2005 GF of the back of NSW players alone. It's a long leap to be insinuating the use of a full NSW and rather daft if you're a true AFL supporter.

I reckon Kieran Jack will eventually be our best player and he's from NSW.

I come from a long line of old South supporters, but I think the prospect of a team full of NSW players isn't that bad, particularly when I'm a big advocate of AFL expansion. Also, I will follow the swans even if the devil himself is recruited. I honestly couldn't give a sh1te who the swans recruit, so long as we win. South supporters are among the most dedicated, unlike those fickle Fitzroy fans that changed their team at the drop of a hat.

I think the club itself is almost spiritual and it goes deeper than mere geographical location.

Barry Round , thats the best decision ever made. Getting the Big man off the Dogs.
If Barry Round :diamond: was not skipper when we went to Sydney there would be no Swans- no doubt.
If ever you see the great man, bow down and give thanks.
He was the gell when it was hell!:thumbsu:

He speaks the truth on all points. Let us not quarrel brothers.

Btw I'm yet to say this on the forum yet, but Jack is the son of God.
