Oh and Josh Fraser was a very, very good mobile ruckman during his best years but was cruelled by injury and Malthouse playing him as a bash and crash tap ruck from the age of 18.

Jolly played in more evenly spread teams. Cox did just fine in Finals and toweled Jolly up in the 2006 GF.
It was Jason Ball who did the damage against WC in the 2005 GF, not Jolly.

Agree with this 100%, Jolly was absolutely atrocious in the 06 GF, and 05 was Ball leading the Ruck.
In saying that, I'd think Jolly would be in the top 5 since 2000, because his timeline matches up pretty well.

I think Sandi and Cox are the two standouts, if we are talking about performing in September I seem to recall Clark Keating being very good for the lions in their flag years despite not playing so many games in the H & A season, struggled with injuries but performed on the big stage. Jolly was great for the pies when they won in 2010 but got solidly beaten in 2006 (Didn't his wife have a kid and he not get much sleep or something like that in grand final week) and was comprehensively beaten in 2005 by Jason Ball. Still a great player but for mine only had one really good grand final in 2010 and also struggled in 2011 although he was massively underdone.

In terms of best actual ruck work I'd be putting Lade down as #1. His tap work was second to none. Very handy around the ground and so good to see given his terrible injuries in early 2000's.

Cox has to be #1 overall though just due to consistency.

Best Forward since 2000 can provide some very good debates, but best ruck, defender and midfielder are pretty clear cut. You could argue against them, as long as you're willing to argue for the incorrect answer.
