That team is comically slow. But I spose that's a reflection on the club and its recruiting/development rather than the journo that wrote the team up. Doesn't help that Stephens' play invited a level of rage from the fanbase probably not seen (at least as far as on-field performance goes) in the last fifteen years. I'm still pissed off at him, and I don't really care if he did crack in harder after Clarko's bake. That's how much faith he eroded in that little cowardly spell of his.

I don’t think it’s that slow. The following players are above average for their position for pace: McKercher, Comben, Fisher, Corr, Logue, Wardlaw, LDU. Another half dozen are probably average for their role. Then a further half dozen below average. Much like any other team I would have thought.

Couple of asterisks there for mine. Three of those were used as key defenders last year and pacy key defenders aren't that useful when the ball enters our d50 with the frequency and accuracy that it does. Maybe that changes if things tighten up further up-field. I also think Comben lost a yard anyway after his leg break in 2023.

Then, on the defensive side, LDU doesn't use it. He jogs. He led us in pressure acts but he didn't hit third gear doing so.

I'd probably feel a lot better about things if we had someone rapid up forward. I look at that team and think of the exact same scenario that's given us so much recent grief; teams slingshotting out of our f50, and our lads being powerless to stop it

FOS and Scott would rotate through i reckon.

Dont think W Phil is best 22 with our mid depth unfortunately, a few others have jumped ahead.

Interested to see how W Dawson and Konstanty go this year too, no doubt both will feature.

Fisher - team needs more pace esp upfront

FOS - adds speed

Tucker - would have had him in but didn’t play today and he simply needs to be demanding a spot

RHJ - will get every opportunity to push into round 1 side but just from what I saw today needs to more to grab a spot

Durs - could conceivably push out ford but doubt it happens for round 1

Lmac - kept undoing all his good work with bad work today as he always does, don’t think it will be tolerated anymore

Edit: just looked at fisher’s tackle numbers across his career. They are pretty good other than last year at half back. He’s had a year of 3.5 per game but most in the high 2’s. That’s pretty much Paul Curtis, and well up on ford and Hansen jnr. Seems a no brainer to play him round 1.
