To have bartel in a foward pocket ahead of sjohnson and chapman is very weird. Sj was a better player then bartel regardless of position but you are going a step further and putting bartel deep foward ahead of him?

but then again, couch on a wing? Ablett in the centre? what the? Surely you would swap them around.
Fair call re bartel and Stevie. I'll amend. I was covering a long period. Knew I'd miss the obvious
Re Ablett snr, he was brilliant in the middle for a fair part of his career. Loved Couch there too. Couldn't leave either out but preferred Snr in the middle

All but Menegola.

Zuth I still think may be unlucky. I just have this feeling this new Cats team, they like having their weapons and link players up forward. Excluding Rohan or Miers they lose something they otherwise have, with a unique attribute that helps us score. If either were out of form it's a different story. Maybe you could argue that case for Rohan but not Miers.
Need the run and the youth. Keeping Zuthrie in

That’s the team i would select. Miers is ahead of Menegola. Zuthrie deserves his spot.

MoC has struggled all year. Rohan has failed in finals and we have other options up forward eg Danger, Henry, Smith

Honestly, David Cameron was my first thought. It didn't make any sense, and then I very quickly remembered Jeremy. We have had some very talented players over the years that is for sure.
Absolutely gifted players. Probably missed some that aren't coming to mind that would test me re best 22 in my life

It's fine to have a best 22 that's different from the MC. As long as you adjust your expectations to account for such.
The reason we are in the place we are is because the young guys in the team got us there.
I'll be really disappointed with the mc if they revert back to a team that has failed us in finals time and time as gain.
I'll go with Scott's phrase this year. Stay with the moment
Positive footy wins finals

Larry is spot-on. The fewer finals failures - perhaps not the best word but you get the idea - we field on Saturday the better for us. If Mieirs and Zuthrie don't play then we're fielding an older been-there -done-that team. All the 'regular' younger fellows should play, which means - gasp - that the likes of Rohan or O'Connor or Duncan (fitness?) may have to look on. It's not as if they haven't had the opportunity.

Youth and form should be the key selection criteria, since that's what has put us where we are now; we just have to hope that the MC sees it the same way.

This is a stretch.

I don't understand people questioning Rohan's position in the F50.

Sure, have reservations because of his past finals performances.

But don't be shocked when he lines up... Because he is an important role player (the only guy who can mark above head besides Cameron) and has not looked like being out of that role at any stage when fit.

Rohan will play... Let's just hope he contributes and plays his role.

This is a stretch.
Not on there own. No stretch.
The game style could not have changed so dramatically without them being injected into the 22.
Zuthrie has been very solid all year with intercepting and using the ball off half back beautifully. He has also been more attacking than I anticipated.
Holmes has used his pace, elusiveness a n d kicking skill to create attacking football
Close has been extraordinary all year. His ball handling is elite. He is fast and elusive and plays a team game. Would love to see his tank grow and get him in the midfield in years ahead.
Stengle has surprised the football world. All Australian. His goal sense is something we've needed for a long time
SDK is all I need to say there. The kid is unbelievable as a KD. Closing speed, composure, marking overhead. Wow. I reckon he was considered for AA squad too.
Miers was a little questionable early in the season but has for several weeks at the right time become crucial with his running, ball use and recent sharp shooting.
MC would be foolish to break this up. Do not destroy the mix of enthusiasm and belief.
All of these guys are defensively outstanding
To combine this with the stars like Selwood, Danger, Smith, Big Guthrie, Duncan, Blicavs , Cameron, Hawkins, Stewart, and the grit of Parfitt, Atkins, Henry, Bews, Tuohy, Rohan and top it with Stanley is the gold formula
Menegola as sub
Unlucky kolo (who will play against taller forward line ups) Ceglar, O'Connor,

Larry spot-on again. We won 13 straight with all those younger fellows in the team. Only a dill would omit some of them to play chaps whose preparation has been compromised by injury eg. Menegola. It's time to move on.

As for Rohan, playing him is a gamble: it's a good idea in theory but usually doesn't work out in practice. When it comes to finals he is the definition of a role player ie. struggles to get a kick.

Everybody agrees with Larry's sentiment.

Someone's going to be unlucky. Of the ones he mentioned everyone is a certainty except Miers, Rohan and Zuthrie. I would almost put Miers into certainty category with his past 6 weeks and I heard Scott all but confirmed Rohan. So I can understand people are stretching for left of field exclusions like Kolo or Duncan. Both would be in the first 16 picked. If their concussion and injury clouds present a risk, that may be the way either missed out.

The only young guys that are a chance to miss selection are Zuthrie, MOC & possibly Miers.

The others are locks and no chance of missing with some injury mishap.

These guys are absolutely serviceable but you can't fit them all in (assuming the guys due back are ready to play).

I won't say that the young guys haven't been important... Obviously SDK, Stengle, Close & Holmes are very good... But they ain't missing selection anyway.

Whatever way we break it down, damn this is a strong squad and some decent players are gonna be unlucky.

Go young cats

On the dark-and-smelly Scott said some players who've played a lot over the last couple of years are going to miss out.

My prediction is that neither Zuthrie nor Mieirs will be omitted and nor should they be. In 2011 Scott opted to leave out Milburn and Mooney, so it wouldn't be amazing if Menegola and/or Duncan and/or Kolo miss the game. O'Connor is also vulnerable but he can play on ball if required which may save him; while Henry can play back, forward or even on the ball at pinch.

To me it indicated that Menegola might be in trouble, rightly or wrongly. He definitely sounded like he was talking about the veterans.
