These rankings are based on real results that point to how well players performed. These are more valid than someone's subjective view of how good they think a player is.
You could say the same about Dreamteam scores.

The formula for determining the rankings is still arbitrary.

Don't pretend that it's cold, hard proof of anything.

For example the stats show that Cox is the best ruckman in the competition and Jimmy Bartel is the best player overall followed by Joel Corey.
Well, I'd say that's bullshit.

Bartel and Corey are the two best players in the comp?

I don't think so. They aren't even the two best players in their own side.

Your supposedly infallible stats sound pretty fallible.

It is very dangerous to ignore stats but they certainly don't reveal the full story.
Why is it dangerous?

What happens if people ignore stats?

But these stats give a pretty good idea why we finished second last having been beaten by the bottom team. We have a long way to go. This means players being fit enough to perform and mature enough not to get rubbed out.
I don't need those stats to tell you why we finished second-last.

I don't think many people who watched us this season would need them.

C: Priddis, Kerr, A.Selwood
HF: Ebert, Kennedy, Wirra
FF: LeCras, Hansen, McKinley
C: Cox, Masten, Staker
I/C: Butler, Lynch, Stengelein, Embley

Hansen for Brown (at least till round 3 when hansen is injured)
Wilkes for Niko (this could change due to match ups)
Stengelein for Rosa

Theres a few of these that could be changed depending on who we play eg if we need more run from the backline swap out wilkes for niko or wilkes can be swapped out for mckenzie/spangher whatever. If we come up against a softer midfield you could drop stengelein for rosa for more pace ect...But I think on talent its a little more on par.
Would of also liked to put Seaby in but I dont see it happening unless there is a major match up needed.

Two Schofields that would be handy. Looks a bit too tall on the bench, hate to say but maybe fletcher on the bench or someone who can have a run thorugh the midfield.

Easiest task all year! :D

Mckinley, Stenglein, Staker, Hansen, Seaby, Fletcher, Graham, Braun and Armstrong are either Delisted, Traded or Retired.
Not bad for being done back in July !
I am soooooo glad I was wrong about Mckinley.
How I would have it NOW

Still looks good, I couldn't fit Seaby, Stenglein, Fletcher, MacKenzie, Houlihan, Hansen, Scooter, McGinnity, Schofield and Spangher.
A good mix of youth and Experiance to choose from and thats without the Draftees eg: RICH, Walters, Zaharakis, Klemke, Cockie.

WOW how good are we going to be in 09 if we stay injury free.:thumbsu:

I agree looks promising. Add 1 or 2 draftees to that too:thumbsu:

All except for RICH in bold should be swapped with NICNAT in bold italics with the * symbol either side some exclamation marks capitals some thumbs up symbols and a HELL YEAH BABY.
AHHHHHHHHH NOPE!!!!!!!!!!

Look how this team would look with 2 more seasons (2011) with the players that I think we will draft.

Except if we got Zaharakis at 18 or Gourdis at 52 we wouldnt be getting the best available. This years draft is stronger than last years, yet you have Gourdis going higher this year than last year after doing nothing?, And Zaharakis id be looking at with maybe pick 36, he's overage with poor kicking skills, we dont need that

Watched a couple of replies on the weekend and Adam Selwood and Lecras and Mcnamara stood out.

when Selwood is attacking he is very damaging (very underated would like him in the middle).
lecras is able to take on the opposition and deliveries the ball very well (want him to play HF not FP).
Mcnamara is just Hard at it but also has very good vision.

Oh and we should never of lost to Sydney - Bloody hunter aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Edit - Butler, very smart did some excellent 1% hope he can stay fit.

He has improved out of sight this year and wont be available at 36.
His kicking was exceptional during the U18 series and took the opposition on with his speed and run threw the centre, even if he isn't ready next year to play as a starter to let him go to another club would be a huge mistake.
Gourdis: would be worth pick 52 IMO rather then waiting to see if he is still there come rookie listing time. Remember at National trial he leaped 2 cm less then NicNat in running leap and the same as him in standing Vertical leap, as well as performing well in the agility and endurance exercises. Why the tigers let him go has me stuffed.

If one of our picks is a forward, could take Staker's spot on a HFF... Not sure where he is going to fit again this year, midfield tagger could be good, he has the strength but not sure if he has the engine.

Surely Lynch at CHB would be a step backwards.

Either Hunter stays there, or we force a younger player up the curve.

If Lynch is going to be moved away from the goal-mouth, he's going to be spending his time between the arcs. That's where we get value from him.

Agree 100%:thumbsu:

The best value we will get from Lynch is in a creating / attacking role not defensive. Still not convinced he has the pace or the mental toughness to stand on an opposition forward on the lead.

I can see Lynch developing into a very good utility player, he can cover every position in the forward line, have a run on the ball and even ruck. In defense he would be better as the loose man and told to just read the play and attack the ball.

Lynch getting the ball on the wing and pumping it 60+m forward with McKinely nudging his opponent under the long ball will pay big dividends next year IMO.

Lynch on a wing then... Hunter should not be CHB, he is at best a third tall where he can still run off and create. He gets monstered by J Brown, Nick Riewoldt and co. I still think Brown would be a waste at CHB when he can crash packs as a fwd...

CHB is an issue, I guess Brown could go CHB, Hansen to CHF and Kennedy to FF? Hansen would never work as a FF as he can't take a contested mark.

Adam Selwood is definately in our best 22! Replace Rosa/Ebert with him.

Hansen at FF with Brown at CHB.

Hansen can't take a contested mark and is no good at ground level, how would he work at FF?

IMO Selwood hasn't been quite as good of late, his kicks were lacking pentration and his decision making left a bit to be desired... Ebert is going to be much more important for our next flag tilt, and you could toss a coin between Rosa and Selwood.

Staker could be a better tagging option, has a bit more body and strength to throw around?

Hmmm, this is a bit on the nose.

Selwood finished third in our B&F this year, behind Cox and Lynch.

Selwood was our best midfielder this year and Rosa is a crab. Without a doubt, Selwood is in our best 22. He would be one of the first picked.
