Well I think you would be out of line. He may be many things.... But i'm not sure the word coward fits him at all.

We'll have to agree to disagree. I wouldn't hesitate to have a crack at him for his sniping acts, particularly targetting Goldy, and would add that it's a shame he's been a repeat offender in that department as he's a far better footballer than one who needs to resort to that crap. Many players are ripper blokes off field, generous with their time and always welcoming to punters wanting to have a chat, but some cross the white line and leave their brains in the rooms. His courageous act you highlighted should be his legacy. The additional brain snaps are what I'd be calling him out on. They're pissweak!

Furthermore, I see a classic example of this regularly via a close mate's FB posts. His 4 yr old daughter was diagnosed with Leukemia a couple of years ago and has spent the past two years in and out of the RCH, and will continue to for the next couple of years if all goes to plan. It's been a massive struggle for the whole family and a truly heartbreaking one to follow from afar. He's a Richmond supporter and one day, about 18 months ago, a group of Tigers players visited them in hospital. One of them came back the following week off his own bat and has since become very close friends with the family, visiting weekly, again off his own bat. That player? Reece Conca.

Refresh my memory, who did he hit off the ball?
Goldy 2012, 2015, 2016 (targetted much?!)
Boomer 2007 semi

As Twinkletoes said (and excuse the big paraphrasing here), being a good bloke off the field doesn't mean he's not a shit bloke on the field (and vice versa). And 99% of AFL fans know nothing of his off-field behavior and will judge him on the on-field stuff.

Edit - with a bit of research add Pratt 2008 and Firrito 2009 to that list (and that's only including North players)

In fact, we used to suck him in easily. Pratt and Spud could get into his head and he would spend the rest of the day trying to snipe them. Must have been reported 3 or 4 times against us.

It's fair to say he has matured and is sucked in less often, but his shot on Goldy last year was as cheap and cowardly as it gets these days, and it's still not out of his game as evidenced by the powderpuff punch on Lycett a few days ago.

Cowardly sniper on field and good bloke off it are not mutually exclusive.

You must have missed the "off the ball" part of my question.

Leigh Matthews is often cited as one of if not the very best ever. Renowned for his toughness and courage in the contest. But there is no denying he was guilty of many thuggish acts, and a lot of them could only be described as cowardly.

$1500 fine for tripping Thomas??? Is this some sort of joke? First we don't even get a 50, costing us a likely goal as Thomas was streaming forward, now he doesn't even get a week for that? Gawd I hate Adelaide so much I think I just blew a gasket

edit: The same as Drew got for "instigating a melee"???

I'm not sure how I feel about the trip - a fine seems poor. It's always been seen as a completely unacceptable act to intentionally trip with your leg. This isn't a hand on the ankle professional free kick here - he actually swung his leg at him. I think it is a dangerous precedent to allow it.

If Thomas had done that it'd be a month.

Calling it a trip is generous. It was a deliberate kick to the leg of a player running full tilt. He got his knee ffs. He didn't clip his ankle.

What do we always hear as justification for suspending NMFC players? Duty of care...potential to cause serious injury...

Not applicable when NMFC players are the victims.

**** the MRP.

congrats on your win, but i think you misunderstood what this thread is about.....

Misunderstood by a mile. Enjoy the win Stevey J, and read the whole thread before posting next time.

They are going to be worse than hawk posters in terms of modesty.

Well they won't be displaying it in this thread (which was wholly dedicated to MRP discussion for any other douche whose eyes light up at the sight of Bont's name) as it's now closed, seeing the season's finished and no further MRP issues will be present to discuss in 2016.
