I know this is an absolutely meaningless series but it was a great opportunity to pick the next-in-liners and give them a block of games in their preferred position to see what they can do. Chopping and changing each game helps no one and reveals nothing. A player can have an off night or fluke it and you wouldn't know. If a player needs a rest, send them home and pick someone else.

look at the announcement today re: the test team.

Perfect opportunity to give some new talent an extended run (including at least one new opener, given our current 2 openers will be gone in ~12 months)

but nope. just confirm status quo*.

The test team is going to look very different in 12 mths, new openers, and 2 of the 'pace cartel' more than likely retired and what have the selectors done about to prepare? SFA.

*yeah, yeah WTC points but **** that, we should flog Pakistan and WI at home. It'd be easy enough to rotate Hazel & Starc and give the next in line the 3rd spot for the summer.

Craddock is spewing more bullshit again. Yeah cause Bangers is competing with the likes of hodge/law and etc. let’s be hobest, most gropers want him to have a go cause he’s been doing well at shield cricket for a while and for a long the form of the other batsmen around the mark has been inferior. He's spot on about Warner.

The sad part for me is that there's no one really pushing for that spot other than Bancroft.

Warner deserves a big send off, been a fantastic player albeit with a quiet last few years in the whites.

Sandpaper issue the obvious blotch, but it took a few fools working together for that disaster to happen.

And was never even involved in the worst part of sandpaper imo, the bold face lying in the press conference after that days play.

It'll be interesting to see if it holds post retirement but I get the sense he's got a lot of internal respect for the fact he seems to have unfairly accepted a much higher amount of the blame for sandpaper than he deserves, (ie, Paine, the bowlers etc having no idea about it and it was almost solely Warner's idea).

Mitch Johnson seems to have a differing opinion on ownership of "sanpaper-gate"

Warner is a tool of the highest order there is hardly anyone claiming his spot now is there was still serviceable at the World Cup

The bold faced lying part was what the media manager told them to say. Media manager and CA executive were in damage control.

Eventually you'll get to the situation that exists in England.
Soccer is like you describe for Oz cricket. Various competitions on different platforms.
It's when you start dividing one competition that it gets ugly.
Premier League (EPL) is a mess. Sky (Rupert 'I'm not greedy' Murdoch) has the rights to broadcast EPL. BUT... certain weekends belong to BT Sport (now TNT Sport) and some weekends are on BBC and some are on other platforms. BBC can broadcast goals from the early kickoff on the news and sports reports, but not from the normal kickoff games. Can only show the post match manager interviews. BUT... they can show the highlights after 2200 on MotD. And so on.

Edit - a new deal for EPL just announced but the current deal (18 months to run) is something like...
Rupert the Sky Bear TV - 200 games (of 380)
BT/TNT Sports - ¬50 games
Amazon - 20 games
BBC - unlimited highlights for Match of the Day and MotD2 and Football focus.
No broadcast of 1500 kickoff Saturday to encourage live crowds (so much a better atmosphere than those dead crowds), especially for the low draw teams (think Norf or StK types).

If you actually care about soccer (no I don't) it must be an expensive nightmare to see it all.
