Lyon really needs to take wickets on a day 5 pitch .
This isnt a typical day 5 pitch though. Its hardly ragging. He has looked dangerous in parts but doesnt look like being the match winner today. If we do win he will need to contribute a couple of wickets but the quicks will need to get at least 5 of the 7 IMO.
I think India will be conservative and content with the draw but if they do decide to go for it then we are in with a decent chance of taking the 7 remaining poles. We will know within the first 2 or 3 overs what their intent is.

Gonna be a lot said about Pant’s two stupid shots if they lose this. What are you doing trying to hit sixes when you’re not chasing the win? They were cruising to a draw before that moment.

Don't care what cricket poindexters say, but deliberately playing for a draw when you have a whole day of batting to go for a win is WEAK.

I don’t think they were necessarily opposed to chasing the win, but they started pretty watchfully (as Aus did in their second innings) and ended up being 3/33 at lunch. At that point there was no point in chasing a win.

You also have to go at better than 3.5 RPO against a very good attack for 92 overs, and break a 97 year old record for highest-ever run chase at the MCG. In terms of probability you’re far more likely to salvage a draw and then head to Sydney only needing a draw to maintain the trophy.

Clear deflection from 3 different angles

Don't think it got a spike on snicko because it was off the flat face right where the stickers are .

Wonder if hawk eye could pick up the deflection?

Fox were showing the path of the deflection, was pretty obvious

Oh I know their mindset for sure, but settling (at this point) for a draw instead of aiming for a win will never make sense to me. However I am an alpha male who makes million dollar deals before breakfast and owns 3 houses on Whore Island, so that beta behaviour will never play in my lifestyle.
