You can argue till the cows come home about his home vs away record in Tests but as a ODI and T20 player he is one of the greatest of all time.

Overall a batting average for an opener of 45+ is the equivalent of a number 4 with an average 50.
I agree with all of that. However.

He never did the business in England or in India in Test match cricket. So for me, he sits below the greats of Australian cricket. Your Smiths, Borders, Chappells, Pontings and Bradmans.

Just my opinion.

I'm leaning toward trying Green opening (when Warner retires) and have thought he or Marsh could be good. Just makes more sense to leave Marsh where he is, so if it fails, there is less shuffling of the order. I also think it could be the making of Green and stop him being so tentative (which is what I think holds him back). Understand wanting a more traditional opener too, but apart from Handscomb, I have little faith in the other options. Maybe Renshaw. But the strike rates with Uzzie worry me.

sure would have been nice to give Green an extended...say 5 test run opening then wouldnt it? Say, maybe at home, against weaker opposition?

Might be confidence building, something he could desperately do with.

There was a Roar article pointing out that Warner got in the Test team at the expense of Katich, in the name of planning for the future, when Katich was in better form than Warner has been.
Poor old Katto. That wasn't the first time he'd copped a rough one from the selectors. In Steve Waugh's final Test he made 125 and 77n.o. in Sydney to salvage a draw in both the match and the series. Nek minnit, gets dropped so Andrew Symonds can debut

Perhaps Kato wasn’t well like by his teammates. Look at the Marsh Bros who at times have underperformed and yet been in and around the squad as they were well like by their teammates

There were never any issues with Katich in the dressing room. Unless you were Michael Clarke.

Below hayden and Langer as an opener too.
Hayden won us a series in India with his batting
And langer was always good against England

Problem is he averages 37 vs England (26 in England 0 tons in 37 innings )
And 31 vs india (21 in India 0 tons 19 innings)
20 tons in Australia 6 away including 2 vs Bangladesh who are worse than a shield side .

Flat track bully
Bangladesh had us by the ropes a bit that series mate. Wouldn't say it was like Bangladesh of the early 2000s.

Honestly that innings was pretty darn indicative of Warner's entire career.

Big score at home against a less than stellar opposition after a poor away series, supposedly 'silencing' the critics.
Damien Martin was dropped after a poor away ashes series where he got 2 shockers prior to DRS . It was still better than Warner's last 2 away ashes .

The fact that he warner wasn't dropped may have something to do with what state he is from .

He was the ring leader in the sandpaper cheating saga and the one who told bancroft to do it .

Also the biggest shit talker of the Australian team then when the Saffa boys mentioned to him how his wife ****ed sonny bill in the toilets he cries like a little bitch .

See ya campaigner
