Personally I think Lever will be a Hawk next year. Reckon it's been done for a while.
I have nothing to support this opinion, it's simply what I think.

I like that we are quiet and not 'linked' to anyone.

I wonder if this trade period will be as 'oh boy wow wee' as last years?

What do we have to offer for Lever? Next year's 1st, and which player?

It's a nice theory, but the word is that he's long been done to Melbourne.

Yeah I know and as I said I have nothing to back it up.

I read somewhere months ago that it was a done deal so am holding onto that I guess.

To add to that, I can't see why anyone in his position would choose the Dees over the chance to play under Clarko, with all due respect to them. He would be well remunerated at Hawthorn - and $ isn't everything anyway to some people.

Wait and see. Until it's proven otherwise, I reckon he will be a Hawk.

I like your post. I don' think you are correct on this one, but I like the way you wrote it. I wish journalists would be this honest when they "report" on issues without having any supporting evidence.

Oh, and I don't have any information either. I just read and watch and hope...

Half the time they do have evidence. Stories leaked to them by player managers. Thing is, they neither know nor care whether they have real news or are being used to boost the player value for a different reason. They just like feeling smug because they think they are in the room.

There will never be another Buddy or Hodge
I agree, to be fair there will never be another anybody until we get the tech.

I was more referring to the idea that id love us to be on the hunt for the next Hawthorn greats.

If GW can see another truly special player or two on the horizon id hope that we will go after them.

Premierships are won by really good teams but another dynasty needs a sprinkling of the best of the best.

The next Danger, the next Dusty, the next Bont, the next Gaz if possible. Give me another Buddy or another Rooey please.

Buddy is a going to kick 1000 career goals which is unheard in this era, how long do you think before we see that again ?

Its helpful that a chunk of his career came from a time when forwards did kick 80 or 90 goals a seasons.

But its entirely possible it will happen simply because players will play longer. 15 year careers could well be commonplace.

Of course there will. Possibly within 4 or 5 years even. Certainly within 10.
Agree, who knows they may already be on the list. I have faith and excitement re many of our younger players.

I can remember thinking the same when Dunstall retired, then Crawf, etc.

While Buddy and Hodgey are unique, there will be some that step up through hard work, while others will be just freakishly talented.

While lever is a good player I really don't favour paying 500-700 for a defender we already have we need a mid. He very similar mold to sicily 3rd tall attacking intercept player.
With frawley and birchall walk up starts back in defence next yr. Even stratton who role will be very Interesting next yr. Where does lever fit he would have to squash chip of brand out.
Back 6 , frawley- key hardwick - small
3 attacking midsize, birchall,sicily,burton,
That leaves
Stratton,lever, or brand ????

There was definitely speculation linking us with Lake either the year before we nabbed him I think or maybe year prior to that.

As for McEvoy there was no speculation cos we weren't into him, we were after Longer and Mumford, and then were having discussions with Pelchen and he dropped bombshell that BB was available. Mumford had already declined and Lions were asking way overs for Longer, so we swooped.
Yeah I know we were interested but they did not link him to us the year we actually nabbed him.

With carlton snapping up the g.w.s boys Devon Smmith and Kennedy. The Hawks will have there seeds planted somewhere

Are they definitely getting Smith? Would make it funny if Stringer didn't go to Geelol and Ablett is forced into retirement.

If we got Lever it would mean Burton and/or Sicily could then play most of their time either up forware or on ball.

Not really as Lakey was still a contracted player for a year or 2 at Dogs.
Nope, I was told by someone at essendon way back in 2011 that we were courting Lake for 2012! Plus spoke with Griffen at the same time but he wanted waaay overs.
I wasn't surprised about Lake at all.
