I agree with you on Gallucci. I would be loathe to spend a first round pick on a player with a ? mark on his foot skills. Shame because if he was a class kick he would at the very top end.

For GWS I think would start as a HB. They have a few blokes who play mid and push to the HF line. I really like what Swans did with Mills in that role and think its a reasonable template for Perryman. He has scope to go in the middle but realistically with the kids they will take this year, got last year, Steele, Ahern, Pickett, Hoskin-Elliott etc they are ok in that area hence I would think he will start as a back.

I see where you are coming from and I probably overrated him as the best kick in the draft. I am a fan of what he brings though and he seems like someone who could pop up at either end and make an impact or provide some run and carry and class around the wings. I rate him as a Polec type. From what I've seen of him, he likes to run and carry and he hits more passes than he misses. Whether he hurts you a heap with it is a different story I guess, which is probably where I've overrated his kicking.

Whether you take him as a top 10 is debatable but there wasn't a heap around that mark that I liked and Port needed. I also think its become somewhat cool to hate on Gallucci now- a bit of groupthink.

Getting to it Snoop Dog

Just taking a chill pill as that SOB Jack Package has for the second time today pissed me off ;)
After having nabbed Setterfield three picks before I wanted him in the first round , he then goes a takes Will Drew three picks before mine in the second round ...trumpted again.

By the way JP your off the Christmas Card List........ permanently.

Pick 32. West Coast.

Joseph Atley. 186 cm 84 kg. Inside Mid . Bendigo Pioneers.

Atley is one of those players who doesn't have any elite attributes however he doesn't have any weaknesses either.
He plays nothing like his outside brother , Joe is an in and under inside extractor.
Last season The Pioneers played him of a HBF and while he did well at that position he aspired for more midfield duties.
This season his wish has been granted and he has played mostly as a inside mid with an occasional stint in the forward line where he has snagged a few goals. Joe is the Captain of the Pioneers and is quite a personalty contrast on and off the field. Off the field he is modest and a doesn't say a lot however he is very vocal on the field and has quite a competitive streak to him.
Atley has a real attack on the ball and is a head over the ball, coal face worker, the sort of player every Club needs. A lot of what he does may go unnoticed as he is generally the one that dishes the ball out to the outside run and carry types.

He models his game on two current AFL players , namely Ben Cunnington and Luke Parker and I actually think that Cunnington is a good example of how Atley plays and more importantly what he may become.

At 186 and 84 he already has the physique to play the game at the next level, he has the skill set that West Coast need more of and I think at this juncture of the draft he presents good value.

He presents a Coaching Committee with a lot of tools to work with and I see him as a player that will steadily improve and in time become a very good AFL player.
You cant teach hardness to young players they either have it in their DNA or they don't and Atley has it is spades.

Skippos your now up for the Cats.

I had my eye on both JPs picks.

No friends in the online mock draft game :D

In all seriousness Setterfield basically picked himself and despite being a similar sort of player I just thought Drew was too good to pass on. They've brought in a fair few flankers and talls in recent years with higher selections but with these two, Clarke and Anderson in the middle going forward it's a good little core.

Would have taken a key forward had I thought one warranted selection.

Probably no real surprise that Logue would have been top of my list if I had a second rounder.

You a fan? Seems to go under radar a bit.

GWS need a big key back to play on the monsters. Marchbank a flight risk, dont think corr could handle a hawkins type and short of hunting Nathan brown it's one of only two weak spots on their list for mine so Logue an obvious type for them. Ticks a lot of recruiters boxes. Agile, competitive, athletic, could play a few different roles down back and further up ground, skills fine. I reckon he will go higher than this come draft day but equally reckon Maibum and Cox won't be far behind him. I like them as well.

With Pick 33 the Geelong Cats select Oliver Florent (Sandringham Dragons/Vic Metro) 183cm, 74kg, MID/FWD

Honestly, I'm surprised by the amount of talent still available at this selection. There are still 3 players on the board I think are clear top 25 talents, none moreso than Florent. If Florent is here come November I'll be very surprised. He's stepped it up of late throughout the champs and TAC and has risen up a few boards. He's a very smooth mover, with a touch of class being added to every involvement. He always looks to take the game on and move the ball forward, often favouring aggressive disposal to create things that aren't there. Possessing good spacial awareness, his evasive skills and ability to still fire off an effective disposal under pressure is very impressive.

GWS - Tim Toranto

POULTERBEAR

I guess if Snoop comes online before the pick, he can change his mind.
24 Tim TARANTO
28/01/1998 186 82
Sandringham Dragons/Parkdale FC/St Kevin's

If there was a guy who pleasantly surprised me in the Carnival, this was him. Taranto was a guy I thought was OK, but no superstar, having seen him only once at TAC level. He showed me he really had something as medium forward, running player.
Were GWS to get him, he would be a possible heir for Steve Johnson. Not the same sort of player, but one who can fill the role and kick goals consistently.

Pick 23 - Josh Battle
POS: Tall forward, Ht 192cm, Wt 90kg, DOB 1/9/98 From Dandenong Stingrays/Vic Country

There are a number of midfield options that I would easily take here, on my vision they have performed better than Battle. Battle has enough AFL qualities that give him a chance at AFL level.
His kicking for goal reminds me a little of Pavlich with his strength and kicking action. While he missed a few goals, I still like his action. H could be will be an above average goal kicker at AFL level.
During the championships he did not use his endurance enough, but from all reports he dominates time trials and distance running. That is great for his height and the modern game.
I watched him dominate a 5 minute period v WA and then went missing for the rest of the game. VC did not have a lot of action up forward, but I would not mind him bringing himself into the game more.
Adding to the Blues forward line for the future.

Battle, McKay, Sumner
Ainsworth, Curnow, SOS

Very mobile and dynamic forward structure and I think I could snag a solid midfielder with my next pick based on the selections so far.

I would be watching the second half of the season for improvement from Battle, if he stagnates, then I would probably allow him to drift a lot further in the draft.
Offsider
A very interesting choice. I would probably have gone with a mid: I think we need more good mids as we have some forward options.
However, having seen Battle play I can see that there is something to work with. Early in the year I thought he was going to be a top 10 contender. I am not so sure now. I will be interested to see how he goes in the TAC Cup finals before I'll say that you got a steal.
One thing in his favour is that there isn't the same number of potential marking forwards in this cohort. For that season I didn't expect him to be around for a 2nd round pick: far too many clubs need marking forwards.

Pick 20 - Brisbane

Brandon Parfitt

Okay first up. As per last year I am not going to take any of the Lions Academy kids in the practice run. I am interested in seeing where other people have them and will leave them for others to take or not as the case might be.

On Parfitt I think he is one of the few special talents in this draft and I am surprised he is still here. He has the ability to be a good small forward which is why he was not featured in the midfield as much as he should have been in either the Allies or the AFL Academy. I have watched him for the NT though for the last couple of years and make no mistake, he is very good when he is onball and can control games. He will start his career as a forward and will be very useful but in time I expect him to be a dominating midfielder. He has time, pace, skill and the ability to read the play quicker than others.

The player he reminds me most of as a junior is Dayle Garlett (cue laughs from certain people :)) but hopefully he has none of the off field issues that killed Garlett’s chances of making it. Garlett dominated for WA a few years ago but was so toxic off the field he was overlooked in his draft year and then rookied by the Hawks the year after before washing out the following year. There is no suggestion that Parfitt has anything like those issues and as a similar talent I will be interested in seeing how Parfitt goes given how vocal I was in saying how teams should give Garlett a go.

If you were looking for a comparison with a guy who actually plays AFL football I think Allen Christensen would be a good one. Both players are a little on the short side but move well and are smart with the ball when they get it. They can win their own ball and are smart runners without the ball. I think Parfitt is more of a team player than Christensen is though and will work defensively and play within team structures.

I would be absolutely stoked if we picked up Parfitt here in the real draft.
I haven't seen the consistency in Parfitt yet, but when it comes to pace and the ability to make an impact, he looks pretty good. I was impressed by him last year playing for NT. I haven't seen him play SANFL yet: Prime cut the replays after only a couple of weeks here. (But they keep showing the Crow Show and the Weagles thing as well, eve though there are probably very few supporters of these clubs in country Victoria. Give me the SANFL and WAFL replays any day!)

Pick 4 - Gold Coast - Hugh McCluggage

Gold Coast select the player that I rate number 2 in this years draft although I will acknowledge that the top 8 almost are very close. Not much splits a player like McCluggage and say for example McGrath. I have tried to rack my brain to find a player who McCluggage resembles but I have really struggled.

How about Blake Caracella as McCluggage comparison

Logue is a very good selection here as he has already shown a lot of attributes that you mention Snoop Dog , he has already been impressive in the games in the Seniors for Swan Districts.
I think his ceiling is very high and he is an instinctive player that has a high footy IQ.

Pick 19 Essendon Dylan Clarke 187cm 85kg Eastern Ranges

Another tough and strong inside midfielder who has had a terrific TAC cup season and his national carnival was good enough to warrant All Australian selection.
Dylan's number one asset is his ability to win the footy at stoppages. He reads the ball off hands extremely well, he has a strong powerful body and he is very brave and will put his head over the footy every time. He is the best clearance player I have seen at TAC level since Libba. The kid just keeps getting the footy.
He has a strong endurance base that is well above average which is combined with adequate speed. He has a very professional attitude off the ground and will take to footy like a duck to water.
Dylan's kicking is the knock. He has a mechanical technique which looks cumbersome. However his kicking efficiency numbers stack up ok and he will end up like Matthew Priddis an adequate kick. Nothing more, nothing less. Clarke has very good hands and brings outside runners into the game really well. This will be his go at AFL Level. His defensive pressure is at AFL standard which is often not the case for kids coming into the system.

Rationale
I really rate this kid. As i talked about when selecting Brodie, our midfield needs a fair bit of work which should occur in this draft. Watson,Cooney, Goddard and Hocking will all be gone in two seasons. They need replacing and our seconds are not stacked with great replacements. Ashby and J Merrett have not come on. Hams honest but a plodder- Kavanagh and OBrien delisted last year.
I considered Sproule in this spot but I just think our midfield should be our focus and brown can do the job for another year. I also considered another favourite player who I am hoping lasts to my next pick.
Thought you would maybe go Simpkin with this pick for speed after getting an inside bull in Brodie but understand that if inside players are good then they should be taken early. Will you look for speed later in the draft?

There is some speed left in the draft thats for sure.
tippa, fantasia, colyer and zaharakis are all above average for speed and in our best 22.
Alex Morgan was drafted last year and was about the fastest bloke tested while yes tin eades also has jets but a fair way off.
i was hoping florent would fall to next pick alas he didn't.
i do believe inside mids should be first priority.
